View Full Version : Setting up Flight...

I did download the recently released free version of Flight, and I loaded it to my "C" drive.

First I should say that I have ample disk space, an Intel Pentium III Xeon processor, Version: x86 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10, Speed: 3.0MHz. It runs XP Pro, SP III, so there should be no problems with Flight.

I loaded Flight up and had no problems except I didn't like the arcade feel to the game, and that is how it struck me - as a game, not a simulator. I messed with it less time than it took to download and load, and then I uninstalled it and all its components. I posted my thoughts and reasons on a thread that had already been started and said farewell to Flight; I was neither impressed nor interested.

Then I started to read the posts by "AZZARO", and others, at the Screen Shot Forum , and have come to the conclusion that perhaps I acted in a rash manner and didn't give Flight the fair trial it perhaps deserved.

I went through the download process all over again and have tried several times to reinstall Flight. The installer gets just so far and advises me that...

INSTALL FAILED
Extraction failed for file C"\Documents and Settings\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\GFWLive\downloads\4d5308d2e0000001.cab
Please visit out support homepage for possible solutions.

The link to the support page takes you to "http://support.xbox.com/en-US/games/pc-games/game-support" and offers no solutions for Flight that I can find.

Does anyone know what the trick to a reinstall is? All I want to do is give the product the benefit of the doubt and have another go.

Thanks...

You need to do a full unintstall of Flight. Just using the Control Panel/Uninstall won't clean out everything. · Uninstall Microsoft Flight from the Add/Remove Programs screen
· Delete the following directories (if they exist). Navigate to them by pasting the paths given below in the address bar of Windows Explorer:

· %UserProfile%\My Documents\Flight
· %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Flight
· %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\XLive\DLC\4d5308d
· %AppData%\Microsoft\Flight

The Flight website has some troubleshooting and FAQs that may help.

Many thanks for the post, Bill, but...

I used Control Panel/Uninstall when I first uninstalled Flight a week or so ago. I have searched for the files you have listed both by the method you suggested and by using the "search" function. The four files you list are not present on my computer, so the problem must be something else.

Again thank you and any other ideas you, or others, may have will receive swift action.

For Loki...

Thanks for the links; there was nothing about uninstall and/or re-install there, however.

I got exactly the same message the first two times I tried to install. The third time I tried it from the Flight site, instead of the Windows Live site and it installed without a hitch. I don't know why, or if this is of any help to you, but there it is. Good luck. — Bob

Thanks, Bob,

I'll give that a try and post the results here.

Result: I downloaded from the Microsoft site, but it didn't work. I got the same error message as before.
