Hi all,

After a weekend of trying out Flight I find I quite enjoyed it. I have been simming since fsw95, have designed scenery and aircraft, and still use a much altered FSX. Obviously Flight is no good (at present) for ifr/atc/jets and a host of other things that we are used toBut for VFR I really like it. The missions and challenges, whilst gamey, take you to interesting places that might otherwise be missed and throw up some interesting conditions which challenge even the experienced simmer.

The game runs super smooth on my 4 year old PC and the visuals are fantastic. I find the flight characteristics more life like and for me there is a better feeling of scale to the whole thing, something that has bugged me throughout the flight simulator series.

So I shall continue to keep Flight on my computer, I have yet to buy any addons but I probably will at some stage, but FSX will stand alongside when I fancy a bit more than what Flight has yet to offer.

All the best
Keith

No need to apologize.

My thoughs exactly. I've also poked through the flight.cfg and cameras.cfg where I found reference to AI traffic, road and boat traffic and other apparently useless controls. MS is hoping market reaction will drive future development, but the engine seems primed for many more goodies. After some hours of flight, I did buy the Hawaii pack as well as the Maule. Although it's is a superbly modeled aircraft, I'm a little dissapointed at getting only 2 liveries. The rest of the islands, what I've seen of them, are amazing. The cliffs and canyons on Maui are simply stunning, with finely detailed elevations and textures that actually match those elevations. One thing I find lacking is a more vibrant palette of colors. Everything is a little too muted and monotone. Perhaps that's more realistic and we're used to FS9, FSX, and X-Plane's brighter hues. Anyhow, what I'm trying to say is: I'm having great fun with it. On some level it reminds me of Flight Unlimited III. :) — Bob

I have not downloaded flight but from what I have seen in the screen shots that have been posted the scenery looks very good, I am going to keep reading the comments on it and then possibly down loaded this weekend and try it out.

Many of the negative comments seem to be aimed at the gamey nature of challenges etc but these were all in Fsx too just in a different guise. Remember flying through green hoops in the heli tutorials and unrealistic spirals in the sky for thermals in the glider tutorials? Then there were the missions that many people enjoyed and are still being released by third party developers. I think you have to view it as a snapshot of part of what it can do. As for buying the extras, I would have to buy lots to stack up to what I spent on fs9/fsx (don't tell the missus) and there is enough content to keep me happy for a while just in what you get for free.

Either way i'm just enjoying it for what it is, a starting point.

I agree. Complaining about gamey challenges is not a valid argument as you can be serious in your flying as I stated in my blog post (http://jomnisgames.blogspot.com/2012/03/microsoft-flight-can-be-serious-if-you.html).
While complaints about lack of content and features are valid in my books.

You should not apologize for having a valid opinion. As far as I can see there are an awful lot of folks (including me) who are enjoying Flight. Also a lot of folks who are changing their minds about it. Once you get past the expectation that it is FS11 (which it is not) and take it on its merits for what it is then it has great potential. Also there is no reason not to have both Flight and FS9/FSX on your computer and use whichever you find suits your mood and flying needs best. I am not that keen on the more gamey aspects but I do not have to engage in those activities ;)

Yes I enjoy it. Flying through the hoops reminded me of Flight Unlimited 3 which I have sitting in a box in the cupboard. I have been Flight Simming since 1985 using a Commodore 64. I also like the smoothness of it which I don't get with FSX.
