How do you access Free Flight in Microsoft Flight? Everytime I start it up all I can do is play the start-up mission where you have to fly around the balloons?
Please let me know.

You need to go through three(?) turorial missions before you unlock the map and do as you please.

This feels very 'arcade' to me and not very polite to the existing Flight Simulation community, Microsoft left behind for now.
I think at least they should give you the choice to skip that part if you are not a novice.
Or is this a way to say: " Well it's not really meant for you " ........

After giving this thing some more time (Flight), I do kind of like the fun factor. I understand it is no FS11. And I understand we all wished for that. But fun and simple is ok, and, well FSX is not being taken away from us. We can still go back to FSX.
I just wonder how well the Hawaiian Adventure pack is going to sell. I doubt I would buy it but it will be very interesting to see how well it sells.
I have to admit, I have not been the most serious flight simmer. I have had it since the first version. However, I only found two virtual airlines that I ever really spent time with. And they both catered to the smaller aircraft. In all my years I can count the time I have done instrument landings on probably one hand.
I just like short cross countries, or flying in the pattern.
So I understand it is a bummer, to see this new release, and not have 25,000 airports/airstrips, or have a wider selection of planes, or have gps, Or have the cockpit view in the Stearman not be a really good virtual cockpit.
But I guess for the casual simmer such as myself, flying around looking for aero caches can be kind of cool. And if I want more serious challenges I still have FSX to go back to at any time. Maybe what we all hoped for in an FS11 will still happen. Maybe it will be from another company that chooses not to take the same approach as Microsoft. I would be interested to know where they Aces team has gone. Surely all of that talent will re surface somewhere.
On top of all of that. Microsoft has given us a glimpse as to where, they want to go with flying games. And they have dished out this little morsel to us at no cost, and it was made available hours before it was even promised.
I always thought Hawx was/is prettier then FSX. Flight does get at least one star for pretty. (Which I know IFR pilots don't care about) So, I guess what I am saying is that Flight is almost as aesthetically pleasing as Hawx, but you get a peaceful environment where you do not have to shoot anything to level up. Even the biggest Combat Flight Sim fan would have to admit that sometimes shooting stuff gets old in a sim

The tutorials are helpful for me even if I'm an FSX user... because there are some new ways of doing things in the sim like how you move your head (eye-point). The tutorials tell you what buttons to press in the keyboard or controllers. Scheme is different from last time. It's definitely quite convenient to learn these via tutorial instead of reading through the button config screen. In the landing practice, they gave realistic instructions like maintain speed using pitch instead of throttle, the importance of trim etc.. If you find your self too high or too low vs the VASI then you need to use the throttle until you are in the correct position. Once you get to the Stearman there are other controls to deal with like mixture, rpm, etc... This doesn't seem to be arcade instructions.
No I'm not defending Microsoft but I'm really tired of all this whining.

You need to complete the start up missions to access the free flight screen.
