Could I just ask, which addons are you using.

The plane is the Sequoia F.8L Falco from X-Scenery.com.

Sceneries have been made with OpenStreetMap, and free open-source tools like OSM2XP (3D buildings, forests, objects) + XPOSM (roads, power lines, railways) + G2XPL (ground textures).

Start here: http://osm2xp.com/

Happy flying !

Ok. I'm confused. XP10 already uses OSM. What makes this different?

X-Plane 10 only uses OSM for coastlines, rivers, roads, railways, power-lines:
http://developer.x-plane.com/2011/04/osm-what-data-will-the-global-scenery-use/

I'm using OSM2XP to import OpenStreetMap (http://www.openstreetmap.org/) buildings, forests, objects (wind turbines, water towers, lighthouses...).

X-Plane 10: no shadows inside the cockpit in X-Plane 9. ;)

Ridiculously awesome. This beats any MSFS. Shame I can't get it, due to HDD limitations (222GB, 200 full already). Maybe this could be what spurs me to get another HDD.

Thank you for the comment. A future version of OSM2XP (http://osm2xp.com/) may be able to export OpenStreetMap (http://www.openstreetmap.org/) objects (lighthouses, water towers, wind turbines...) to MSFS, but it's still a work in progress:
http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?p=379844

If you want everything, sharp ground textures, cloud and cockpit shadows, objects and buildings and forests everywhere, roads and railways with traffic, then just use X-Plane. The free demo is available here:

I have very similar PC spec to you and after trying the XPlane 10 demo I was getting 10fps with the default graphic settings so I would look at a quad core or something similar before buying the game. XP9 runs ok so im hoping I can make scenery for that and use it later in XP10.

Default X-Plane 10 sceneries have a lot more details than the buildings I'm using:

You'll get a lot more FPS with photo sceneries and OSM2XP buildings. But you have to be careful with the settings... some details are useless and can make change your simulator into a slide-show. You'll find performance tips here:
http://developer.x-plane.com/2011/12/tips-for-better-frame-rates-pt-1/

With my system, I usually get 60 FPS (locked with driver VSync)
- Intel Core 2 @ 3.00 GHz / 4Gb DDR2 RAM
- Nvidia GeForce 8800GT with 512Mb DDR3 VRAM and latest driver
- Ubuntu GNU/Linux 10.04 Lucid Lynx 64-bit

lol nice garden, i did something similar back in fs2004 but I realised that a camp fire with 3D moss on the rocks was a bit too much lol

The thing I really like about XP is the light and shadows are warmer and more real, FSX makes me feel like im in a box with a distance light bulb.

Thanks for the links.

Md Max

I know this thread was started months ago, but I just discovered it.;) I'm curious, does moving ground traffic display when using OSM2XP scenery? Also do you recall the resolution of this scenery (m or cm/pixel)?

Yes, you can see moving ground traffic. OSM2XP (http://osm2xp.com/) is only for 3D buildings, forests and objects like water towers. XPOSM (http://marginal.org.uk/x-planescenery/tools.html) is for roads, railways and power lines.

http://ggka.online.fr/xp/lor40-th.jpg (http://ggka.online.fr/xp/lor40.jpg) http://ggka.online.fr/xp/Q400-01-th.jpg (http://ggka.online.fr/xp/Q400-01.jpg)

Resolution for 3D objects is awesome... source data for the buildings is OpenStreetMap (http://www.openstreetmap.org/). Resolution for the ground textures is sometimes better. I'm using "France 16" by Zone-Photos X-Plane, but you can find sceneries with higher resolutions like here, La Réunion, "zoom 18" (http://zonephoto.x-plane.fr/outremer_FR.php):

Thanks, MdMax, for your reply. I'm a longtime MSFSer and new to X_Plane. I did invest in X-Plane 10 and have bought the Carenado Mooney and the Jrollon CRJ. Now I'm in search of pleasing scenery to fly in. "Plausible world" doesn't yet cut it for me, but I'm willing to wait and see what is developed. Some of the photo scenery you have shown in this thread gives me hope.

I asked the question about ground traffic because of some commercial photo scenery which I saw in a video which was combined with OSM2XP. The city was Copenagen, but I didn't see any moving ground traffic, which made me wonder if somehow the OSM2XP was inhibiting it. Also thanks for the links. I have much yet to learn about X-Plane scenery and X-Plane in general.

Amazing! XPlane wins with FSX in terms of scenery.

Don't conclude so fast based on these screens. This is more of an exception.
In general, XPlane scenery is boring. Bare airports and no urban environments (all suburban). Hopefully the building objects library (still a work in progress) gets expanded to include industrial, commercial and more high rise soon.

The potential is there but it takes a lot of custom work (community effort). And I try to do my part to the best of my abilities. I've tried editing some airports and it's not so hard afterall.

OSM2XP sometimes does not work as the buildings in most towns and cities are not maintained by the OSM community.
