View Full Version : Carrier Ops on the CVN-69 off of Oceana NAS with the Grumman F-14 Tomcat
Did some few cat launches and some landings on the U.S.S. Dwight D. Eisenhower(CVN-69).
I did about four of these when taking these shots.
The first three show the plane parked and just starting the engines. Followed by a quick look around within the cockpit(4 shots).
Then the ready to launch and then flyoff with the last showing the afterburners on as the F-14 flies into some low clouds. There were quite some patches of clouds over in the vicinity of the carrier over there today.
Pictures 1-6 show the fly around to land on the carrier.
In lining up for the cables. The objective is mainly to catch the "number 3" arrester cable. There are 4 counting from 1-4 going from the farthest aft to the farthest forward. It is said if you catch the 2 lower ones you are coming in too low. And if you catch the farthest forward you came in too high. So the objective is the 3rd one, which is said to be the perfect catch.
Unfortunately in this sim, there's no way to tell which one you catch.
Pictures 7-10 is another launch to do another round. With the tenth shot showing a view from inside looking out.
Cool pics!!! Tomcat... one awesome aircraft!
1-5 is the second line up to land and landed shots.
The following 5 in the set shows the last set of landing I did, then I retract the wings to stow for parking.

This last four just shows the jet parked with the canopy open.
