Do we need Microsoft? Well, do we? Yes.. Just for the, dare I say it, GAMING engine they have given/sold us. That is all. We all know that our joy, fun & excitement has come NOT from Microsoft, but from all those freeware & payware guys out there.

It is our choice to buy it or not. I have seen so many postings of guys bleating about class actions.. petitions, etc... over a game? Come on guys, get a life!!!

Another take... From what I gather, scenery & planes will have to be purchased thru Microsoft LIVE.
Look what happened with Apple & the iphone market. You want extra apps, you buy & download them. We all know how successful that has been..

Maybe the same with Flight? just a thought!

Actually, who knows! We will carry on bitchin & moaning until the release. Buy it & try it (maybe) & carry on moaning as we all do. Then carry on with our favourite anyway, be it FS2002,FS9 or FSX.

It has been done before, the Fly fans built their own latest version Fly Legacy from the ground up, for free using volunteer enthusiasts, and it is free to download and try. Flightgear is a free opensource simulator built by enthusiasts, it's all free also. I admire X-Plane's persistance, but compared to FSX or FS9 people get disappointed in it as it is a much small project than FSX. One thing I like about X-Plane though is that they are constantly updating it, they are also extremely friendly. The regular gaming community (first person shooters etc) that many of us don't see are often less than friendly compared to what we're used to. Our community is really friendly and gentlemanly especially in comparison.

Any way, metaphorically speaking we have a lot of fuel in our tanks and can go a long way on FSX and FS9 before we reach any type of crisis.

FSX and FS9 will last us a long time. However it would be nice to have a 64 bit fully multithreaded DX11, accurate physics and aerodynamics, simulator engine with a friendly welcoming source and community which would exceed FSX's capabilities and which the major add-on third party freeware and payware developers could support. We represent the largest flight simulator community in the world, while it seems that MS does not listen to us or cater to us at all.
