I perused the threads on here but perhaps I missed it but has anyone actually USED MS Flight! yet or talked first-hand with any of the MS people?

It's still in Beta. For the Beta team to release info would be a violation of the NDA.
Posted is what MS announced and some tidbits here and there from developers, that have declined to join the MS team. You read it, you know it, so far.

Most of us will download it an put it through the wringer when released. Unfortunately, without an SDK, we can't fix, or tweak, on our own...Don

The only reason I ask is because I got some hands-on time with it and was able to speak with some MS people about it in a fair amount of depth at CES this week. I assumed others with more FS experience and knowledge were there as well and would have posted.

The the real question is has anyone *else* tried it :-)

Post your views, probably others will be interested.

I got some hands on time at the event Microsoft sponsored last month, but that was a pre-beta version at that time with still some bugs in it and I suspect what you saw has been improved.

I only messed with it for a couple minutes and, of course, it was only in Hawaii but I was impressed with the graphics and the smoothness, although even the MS guy said he didn't know what kind of machines were running it because they were rented. I thought that was kind of funny that MS has to "rent" computers for an event as large as CES. It "looked" very nice but I didn't delve into the settings and it was set up in more of an arcade mode: external view, no real "instruments" displayed, etc. Unfortunately my biggest disappointment was some of the info that was confirmed by the MS guy, particularly that previous version add-ons (scenery, aircraft, etc.) will DEFINITELY not be supported. He said that all hardware will be supported either at launch or shortly after but that's kind of a no-brainer I would think. He seemed to want to stress that it was not going the way of catering to the Xbox crowd with all the online stuff but I just got a funny vibe in his "no comments" that the hardcore simmer isn't the top priority. I asked him directly if he feels that this version will satisfy the hardcore simmers and he said they felt it would but I just didn't feel comfortable with the way he answered. Just a gut feeling.

But, I guess we just have to wait to see when it comes out. He also refused to give any info on pricing when I asked so who knows. If anyone else was there and spent more time with it I'd love to hear your impressions as well.

Wait a minute, did he say that Microsoft flight will not be able to get add-ons at all, or will not be able support add-ons from FSX and FS9.

For this sort of basic question you should refer to the fact sheet that Microsoft released, found in the pinned topic at the top of the forum.

Just briefly, Flight will allow add-ons. Flight is not compatible with any previous version of Flight Simulator.

From speaking to the MS personnel, this was my understanding as well.

The reason FLIGHT was not called FS11 was because it was built from the ground-up but the MSFS series was all built on the previous version, which is why its performance is so inefficient (according to MS). So, since this product is not in any way affiliated with MSFS, it should not have crossed anyone's mind to ask about compatibility, that would be like a car from 'Need for Speed' working in Take on Helicopters.
