There's a new kid on the block: ATI Radeon 9700. This card has knocked the ti4600 right off the scale. Simply unbelievable!

"The 9700 manages to outperform the fastest GeForce4 by an incredible 54%....."

A top of the range GeForce 4 card like Asus's Geforce4 ti4600 Deluxe would set you back about $379. ATI's will hit the market in August at about $399. I know it's a heck of a lot of money to be spending on a graphics card but the performance jump has to be worth it!

LAST EDITED ON Jul-21-02 AT 03:01PM (EDT)[p]I don't know how much adding a new top of the line card will actually "speed up" your flight sim. FS2002 is notoriously processor dependant, and you seem to have a pretty nice processor. I'd think you could probably expect better looking graphics, and the ability to run with FSAA, but not necessarily very many more frames per sec. What sort of frame rates are you getting right now? I'd expect pretty good with those specs.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-21-02 AT 03:20PM (EDT)[p]Don't believe the hype about the 9700. I can only get it to beat a Ti4600 by 7%. I don't like ATI products anyway. The last ATI card I had messed my machine up so bad I had to get a new mobo. Nvidia is going to put them to shame very soon anyway. I would try to find a nice Ti4400 until nVidia releases their new card.

The problem with image rendition such as reflections and water effects you are having is with the MX series card you are using.
You can correct this by getting a TI series card. MX series cards are not designed for game enhancements. TI series cards include the latest "off the shelf" enhancements. Video technology is moving at a fast pace right now and specs are changing rapidly.

I don't know about the ATI card mentioned in a previous post, but suggest you try to find a review of the card before you make your choice. The new ATI card may well be the better card, but previous ATI cards use software "tricks" in an attempt to acomplish what GeForce TI cards do for "real" in their hardware.

My statements are based on articles found on Tom's Hardware Guide.

ipgrading the geforce 4mx to a geforce 4 4600 or the new radeon wont help the fps so much but more the rendering quality. If you get the new radeon you shoiuld be able to turn on anti aliasing and run atleast as fast as you are now.

The quality coming out of a geforce 4 mx is pretty crappy.

I have a MSI Ti4600 and it's a good card if your willing to put some better cooling on it. I took the haet sync off and it's a sad little aluma-plastic thing and the bottom is badly pitted. When I got the thing off it was brown from the gpu running so hot so you would need a ThermalTake GF4 cooler for it.

You can pick up an MSI from http://www.newegg.com/ for $306.00
search for MSI G4Ti4600-VTD

The ThermalTake is at [link:www.coolerguys.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=001&Product_Code=SMH-TTGF4&Category_Code=CPC-ChP|Cooolerguys] for $20.

MSI Ti4600 [link:www.msi.com.tw/program/products/vga/vga/pro_vga_detail.php?UID=61&MODEL=MS-8872|specs] and software bundle info.

I just recieved my MSI G4TI4600 a couple days ago but am having trouble getting it to run. Windows 98SE freezes up during boot up and i have to reinstall my old G2MX400 to get the computer up and running again.
It being the weekend I have not heard from MSI tech yet.
I was so much looking forward to see FS2002 on it.

Have A Great Day

Gainward Golden Sample XP750 is about as good as it gets for an all around great card with a lot of features other TI4600 cards don't have. Gainward was also the sole manufacture listed by Nvidia as fully complying with the hardware specs from the reference design, many other manufacturers were using inferior parts and the result was inferior filtering and color output.

As for that ATI that is one heck of a card, but if your going to hold out for that you might as well go the extra mile and wait for the better NV30.

Just because you overclock doesn't mean you can go calling it a XP2300. I've already seen the specs for the REAL XP2300 and it's faster than what he is clocking his at.

The current crop will not support these new chips. There are already a few that should be able to support up to the XP2500, but most companies are already making new boards for the next set of CPU's.

Funny, your the same guy who says you have a ATI Radeon 9700 and it only does 7% better than an Gf4TI400, :-roll and now you say you have seen the specs for XP2300? :-lol Can you say FRAUD? I thought you could! :)

First, an XP2300 frequency is 1867mhz, so I'm running a tick above that, second there are no as of yet announced plans for an XP2300 release, XP2400 yes XP2300 no.

Third, many of the latest KT333 MB will support the new XP2200 and up Thoroughbreds just fine, as a matter of fact the Epox board I am running right now has support for the new T-breds builtin thermal protection. :)

Hey why not post your Madonion 3dmark compare url so we can all see?

Believe me ATI is not worth the trouble.I've used 4 Matrox
video cards and have NEVER had any trouble with them.
I have had one ATI card before, INSTANTLY had trouble with
it. I would recomend getting a Matrox Parhelia -512 or wait
till Matrox releases the 256 memory version.Or stay with
Nvidia but trust me don't bother with ATI,I have heard alot
of complaints about ATI.

Take a look at http://www.matrox.com/

Yep, ATI have had their share of problems getting the drivers right but as of late they have been making real strides with the R8500.

As for the Parhelia, the ATI R9700 and Nvidias NV30 are a leap ahead of Matrox's late entry and though the card is sure to improve as the drivers get better but it plainly is under powered and under featured compared to the fully DX9 compliant R9700/NV30 cards.
It wont matter how much ram they put on that card, but for what it is by itself it is a decent card, but I would save my $400 for somthing a bit more substantial.
