View Full Version : Taxing taildraggers

Hi all.
I have some taildragger planes, (WW1, vintage) some of them taxi ok by using the rudder. But some of them don't which is a pain, as I have to start and finish on the runway. I have to get up some speed before the rudder responds. I know that's how the real ones work, but I want to be able to taxi from the parking areas. Is there something I can change/add/delete in the config file? to make them respond to rudder for taxing.

Hmmm... A lot of those Vintage tail dragger's as I recall had to be positioned by actually lifting the tail into position or two people at each wing pushing them round ... The only thing i can think of though to make your life easier is to add breaking and differential breaking wich by default the buttons for that are F11 (left) and F12 (right) ... But as far as setting that up in an Aircraft.cfg .. I cant quite remember.. Someone will know tho and i may have a little tinker around aha.

If im not mistaken, some old taildraggers are steered by braking, hitting left brake to go left, right for right.
You can adjust the tailwheel/rudder steering by changing an entry in the contact points part of the aircraft.cfg. At least in the DC3 its as follows:

[contact_points]
point.0=1, -56.00, 0.0, -2.3, 1200.0, 0, 0.60, 180.0, 0.200, 2.5, 0.695, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0

The number 180.0 is what does it, change it to 45. Not sure if its the same for all aircraft.
