I have only just now tried my CS1 after changing to Windows 7. The program installs fine, and everything seems as it should - except that although I have checked for joystick operation my Sidewinder Force Feedback II is inoperative. (Doesn't work either...) Is this a problem with Windows 7 that I have to live with, or can anyone tell me if there if there is a way to get joysticks and rudder pedals to work with this legacy program ? Of course, my joystick and rudder pedals are calibrated and working fine in FSX.
Would appreciate any advice.

Hi Jim,
I'm not 100% sure but from my understanding the issue can't be fixed, the games just too old and apparently the joysticks only partially compatible to Win7.
I think we'll be lucky if the game will even install on the next version of Windows if DX6 support is dropped. I will ask the CFS1 crew at my site and see if they're aware of a fix or workaround and will report back to you.
Cheers

Thank you for your input Lindsay. I'm afraid you may be right, but think it a pity because in my humble opinion CS1 was the best of the Microsoft combat sims, and I hate to let it go. If you do hear of any workaround I really would be glad to hear it.
Best regards.

Hi Leroy,
I really do appreciate your help here. For a while I thought I was a lone voice crying in the wilderness - I didn't know of the site you pointed me to. But I have taken the action proposed - and Lo! my joystick works. Not sure about the rudder pedals yet, but give me time...
Again, thanks very much, and all the best.
