Hi All,
Flying the A2A WOP II - P-51D for FSX "Snooks".
Worked out a small chart for time/fuel to climb and fuel burn for even altitudes from 18.000 to 36.000 (should have been done years? ago for RTWR but...) to try to make this in one leg. Plan-G makes a relatively nice (clutter free) map to find VORs for crossing radials for position fixes.
Taking a more southerly route (SJN-LBL-STL-FWA-DJB) in hopes of finding favorable winds at Altitude.

Well... not a bad run. A little hot on final but bled that off over the runway. :)
Nice night... almost a full moon.

Awesome flight, you made great time. What were your top winds?

Thanks... Ed? right? Much appreciated.
Winds at altitude were pretty much nothing below 30kts and between 40 to 55kts. Once I got into Missouri, they dropped off to around 26kts (up at 34.000) so looking at winds aloft charts and fuel remaining, I decided to descend back to 30.000 where they picked up.
I was hoping for much stronger winds and can't figure why they weren't as strong as forecast. Still not bad but...

A superb effort from a fiercely competitive pilot.
Surprised and happy to see you "In It" Rob.
Well Done Man ...Very Nice!

Thanks Austin...
but "fierce"? :-O I would say... hmmm... "highly motivated". :)
I really enjoy things like this. Just hated missing last year's 50's pac-rim jet race at SOH (stupid computer).
Had no idea you guys did a carrier landing competition. That would have been a blast (sounds like it was).
I've been keeping an eye on the winds (seems nothing so hot for the next few days) as I was thinking maybe trying once again or two and maybe with another plane. The Spit has the lungs for 40s but with just 130 gals range is :'-( .
Thanks to you / Ed / FlightSim.com for the challenge!

Too many years ... earlier ... there were walls up between websites .... I like having the community open.
You (everyone) are always welcome here ... and it's our pleasure to have you as a guest. ... or is that a highly motivated guest? ... ba dump bump.
There will be another carrier event ... probably after the big race in February ... you will be notified.
WW II and pre-war fighters trapped on older, shorter, skinnier straight decks ... no catapults, just cables ... poor visibility and weather of course ... hope fully all on the same server at some magic time and date that everyone can make ... I must be dreamin' ... but I'll try.
It would be more fun than a competition ... may build it up with an event we had a few years back to see who could stick a landing the closest to the "Numbers" ... we could use the same a/c for that and it could be a warm up.
I had an event set up to run Jennys out of Ed's (N180GS) 42VA scenery to the Langley CV-1 with no traps ... yeah baby ... no brakes either, right? (off the coast of Virginia Beach) but it took f o r e v e r to get out there.
It was supposed to be just a part of an event not the whole thing.
Beta testing a really cool gauge for Mr. Dave Bitzer that will really add a lot to any (same period) carrier event we run in the future ... very cool.
I need to go back and read to confirm, but I think the current event is for US aircraft only .... let's see ... now where was that?
Cheers,
Great Ozzie

Grazie mio amico!

I remember hearing at Purdue one of the events for the "Flight Team" was "Spot Landings". I never tried joining... was too shy.
But these are a blast and something I would practice "for real" with students (on my dime) or even on my own when I had a chance. Tried to impress upon them the importance of picking a spot and being relatively close to it when landing... and not having 2000' of accidental float.

Thank you sir.

Just a "fun run" with the Section F8 F-86. I noticed the winds were a bit more favorable at "her" altitudes... particularly over the western half of the run. I brain-farted early and leveled out at FL420... should have been at least FL450 then descended once into Missouri. But still +20k avg. wind was nice.
As I said... a fwiw for a little comparison.

A redo of the Spot Landing Event has been recently discussed as a warm up for the carrier event as the carrier event is subject to just about any sort of wx and vis issues ... ;).
Prolly after the Big'un in February, but if it gets together before then you will be notified.
Appreciate your interest and kind comments ROB!
Cheers,
