Since, I run FS9 (yeah... doggie slow computer... don't ask)... and haven't had the chance to see what the airports look like on FSX... can one of you answer this question for me:
Does your stock copy of Edwards Air Force base include the dry lake bed runways and the compass rose? Or only the concrete runways and the fixed aprons to the west like FS9's stock version?
I'd be curious if that was an upgrade that was included standard in the FSX disc set.
Thanks,

John,
I think Acceleration enhances Edwards quite a bit. It does have the dry lake bed runways, and I think the compass rose. It also has a lot of buildings that aren't the stock autogen stuff and static aircraft appropriate to the base.

Also, everything is laid over photo imagery in the Acceleration version.

The basic verion of FSX includes KEDW with the lakebed runways on a basic FSX texture background.
As mentioned above - the Acceleration enhancement pack includes a redesigned KEDW with a photo realistic background, additional structures and such. Quite nice.
Only Rwy 06/24 and Rwy 4/22 are setup as open for usage and with start locations.
It does not include the newer 12,000 ft Rwy 04L/22R - and the 15,000 ft Rwy 04/22 has not been redesignated 04R/22L.
If you are interested in KEDW - I strongly recommend you purchase FSX Gold package - which includes FSX Deluxe and Acceleration.
Of course you are aware that it takes a powerful computer to run FSX at good slider densities - and CPU speed is a key factor. Don't get anything less than 3 ghz, but 4 ghz is preferred.

A typical problem with a great many airports in FSX, since airport upgrades happen after release of each FS version. Thank goodness for the SDK and airport editing programs, and a good reason for the flight simulator versions to continue (besides the boosting of computer hardware manufacturer's profits).

Thanks guys for the info. Sounds like the FSX people thought a few more things through when it was time for the next major release.
