I have the CH Products Virtual Pilot Pro and the CH Pedals that hook up into a game port. They are old products made in 1997. After upgrading I decide to install the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002 program ... I had no problems with the CH products when running the program in Win2000, but now I have XP Pro 32 bit and when I try to calibrate the pedals I get a "game controller error - Your game controller is not connected correctly. Please verify that it is plugged into your computer" ... well of course it is. The Yoke plugs into the pedals and the pedal plugs into the game port. I looked on line and found what I believe to be the latest driver for both hardware. Installed it and still get's the same error when I try to calibrate the pedals.
I decided to purchase this adapter (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230596381155&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT)and hopefully it will solve my problem, but I don't know.
I also bought a copy of MS FS 2004 perhaps it will work better with windows xp?
Any one have any idea how I can get the pedals to work properly? I love to fly helicopters and can't do it without those pedals.

Hi,
Does Windows recognize all the hardware?

I'm using a CableMAX ijoy1, RM-203 ROCKFIRE USB Gameport to USB Adapter. It has a switch for different gameport type compatibility.
I got it from a link posted last year; http://www.usbgear.com/ijoy1.html ...Don

Hi,
Does Windows recognize all the hardware?
Hello ... yes it does ... and it tells me it's ready to go ... the trouble starts when I try to calibrate the pedals.

I'm hoping that the one I got from ebay will do the trick. I expected some time this week.

spirittoo,
The Gameport adapters can be a hit or miss type thing; some work, and some don't.
XP was released around the same time USB became the standard interface, so I bet
XP is the reason your pedals aren't functioning properly, even though the hardware
itself is recognized. I don't think the FS program is the culprit.
Looks like Don's is a pretty good unit to look at, with the different joystick options.
One thing you might want to try is using FSUIPC by Pete Dowson. It's a stand alone
program that allows you to calibrate game controllers to a much finer degree as compared
to the default XP calibration. You'll have to load the program first, then see if FSUIPC recognizes
the analog pedals.
Another option is to find a PCI 15 pin Gameport card that will fit into one of the
expansion slots on your motherboard but again it's a matter of finding one (they
haven't been around for a while, either.)
If all else fails, you might have to bite the bullet and get a set of USB rudder pedals.
Good Luck!
Alan :)

Thanks for posting ... I'm waiting on the adapter that I posted above to come ... hopefully it will work. I certainly can't afford to buy USB pedals so I hope this will work. Now is the "FSUIPC" a free program or something? Can you clarify on that please?

There is one thing I don't understand ... when I disconnect the pedals and just use the yoke I get no problems ... I can fly the planes, I don't understand why it sees the yoke and allows it to function ... but not the pedals ... anyone have any idea why?

FSUIPC, for the features you need, is a free program. You can download it here:
http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html
Make sure you read all of the documentation about which version you need. Also, remember that it's a "module", so it needs to be running
at the same time Flight Simulator is running.
I'm taking a chance here, but I suspect the reason XP is not recognizing the pedals is because of the type of controller it is (one not listed
in the Controller Options), and because of the 15 pin Gameport interface. FSUIPC takes care of that by allowing you to program each
controller independently.

so do I use that program after I get the adapter or before ... thanks for posting.

I would try FSUIPC with your existing setup, and see if it solves the problem. if not, try it with the adapter when you get it.
Good Luck!

I read the instructions and loaded the program ... it said he had been successfully installed in FS8, but when I when into the FS program and try to calibrate it was a no go ... I don't know whether it is because I installed it wrong or it just won't work. Do you have to load the program every time you run FS? I didn't see anything to indicate the program recognized the pedals or not.

You calibrate the controller through FSUIPC. It HAS to be running at the same time FS 2002 is running.

Am I actually in the FSUIPC program when calibrating or in FS 2002 with the FSUIPC running, because I see no way to do it in FSUIPC I just click on the exe and it tells me it successfully installed in FS8
Update ... I got the adapter today, but when I connected it windows xp doesn't see it ... how can I get it to see it is hook up to the USB now?

Start FS, then choose your flight. Click "Fly Now", and let the sim load.
Once the screen changes to the 2D mode, look at the toolbar at the top of the screen (the one that says "file, Edit, etc.)
You should have the word "Modules" up there. click on that, then choose FSUIPC. A startup screen should now show, with
Registration options. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REGISTER FSUIPC in order to use the calibration functions. Then, follow the
prompts.
Remember... if the Adapter doesn't work, then try it without the Adapter. Be sure to RESTART FS and FSUIPC when you do that.
Good Hunting!
Alan :)

Hi,
1. Nothing is going to work unless Windows recognizes the hardware. You may need drivers for the adaptor or hardware.
2. YES, FSUIPC must be a registered version. IF it isn't then you only have the basic functions of FSUIPC that show up and calibration of hardware IS NOT a basic function.

I am trying to find a driver for the usb adapter, but so far no luck. I don't have any id on the adapter. Any idea where I can find a driver for it? Are you saying I can't use FSUIPC to calibrate?

Hi,
The driver comes from the manufacturer of the adapter, if it needs one.
Windows must first recognize the hardware, then you MUST have a registered version of FSUIPC. If Windows does not recognize the hardware then FS/FSUIPC will not recognize the hardware.
The main problem here is using old equipment on newer computers.

Windows seems to be seeing the hardware ... when I go into the device manager I have an ! next to standard gameport ... when I go into the properties I see this message under the general tab ... "Windows cannot determine the settings for this device. Consult the documentation that came with this device and use the Resource tab to set the configuration. (Code 34)" I have the yoke and pedals hooked up to the usb adapter. So I have to figure out why windows can't see the settings. Any ideas?

I have a program called driver magician, but I don't know how to use it fully. I updated what it showed but it didn't solve the problem... I'm wondering now if it is a driver, because window does see it as well as the driver magician, but I have an ! in the device manager. Does determining the setting have to do with the driver

If Windows won't automatically configure it, unless it came with a driver, or has a driver download available, you may not get it to work.
The best you can do is try the same thing I did with the RS version that I had.
The local RS guru said if the adapter is first recognized as a USB expansion port, then it should recognize devices plugged in to it.
Remove it in Device Manager, unplug it, reboot, shut down, plug the adapter in without the yoke or pedals attached, boot.
If Windows recognizes it and you don't get the yellow ! in Device Manager, without shutting down, or restarting, plug both your controls in.
If they are recognized and can be calibrated you are in.
That did not work for me, and all I needed it for was my pedals, I already had a USB JoyStick. BTW, that is on Win 7...Don

The problem is I don't see it in the device manager or I don't recognize it. I'm not sure it is being recognized at all by windows. When I rebooted with just the adapter hook up I got nothing. Now I have the yoke hooked up into the gameport since it works ... but still I can't get anything out of the pedals ...when I click on the rudder box when using the game controller in the control panel I get a message it is not connected ... when I just put in the yoke with throttle it works ... since the pedal is in the usb port I won't mess with the game port at all.

]Apparently this is a Belkin F3U200 and I have seen posting were it will only work with the sidewinder joystick so that $21 down the drain.

Right ... as you all know the Belkin adapter is only good with the sidewinder, however I got a refund for most of what I paid, which was good news.
Now I ordered this manhattan usb game port adapter, (http://www.amazon.com/Manhattan-Usb-Game-Port-Adapter/dp/B0009PXKZ8) and as soon as I hooked up the ch pedals and plugged it into the usb xp saw it and installed it. Problem is it has it listed as a 4 axis, 4 button joystick with viewfinder instead of rudder pedals in the game controller box, and I'm wondering if that's the problem?
I tried to remove it and put in the pedals, but if states that I have to remove it in the device manager, but I see nothing it the DM under USB that indicates it. ... and everything listed is showing as working ok.
When I tried to fly the helicopter it rotates to the left so I have to use the pedal to keep it straight when it should be straight with no turning while on the ground.
Now the adapter has 4 different mode settings and according to the instruction mode 2 is suppose to be for the ch pro flightstick and that was the closest thing I saw ... at least it had the products name. Also the instructions state any mode other than 2 will disable the rudders.
I have the CH Products Virtural Pilot Pro hooked up to the game port and I have the CH Pedals hooked up to the USB adapter ... when I hook the pilot pro and the pedals together and hook them into the usb the throttle won't work, and the helicopter just spins in circles ... I don't like spinning like that ... even as a kid ... when I have the yoke hooked separately in the game port the throttle works. I can control the helicopter, but that constant pulling is a problem.
So anyone out there that can help me to get the rudder pedals to stop causing the helicopter from turning to the left while on the ground? It's kindda cramping my style if you know what I mean.
If you can help please post. Thank you for your time. :)
