Last two times I got a 1033 it was due to bad memory. But it was explorer.exe that crashed though. Worth checking out. ;)

Did you recently add some scenery or a detailed plane? Some report visualfx.dll errors happen with corrupt textures, and others with registry issues...Don

I installed the VRS F/A-18E. It was actually a reinstall of the F18 -- FSX (accel) and the F18 had worked fine before. Also no memory problems I can see. I tried reinstalling FSX -- made no difference. Bob

Just covering the basics here;

Was it installed with Administrator rights?
Do you have the latest Catalyst or Nvidia Control Panel for your graphic card?
Does this occur with any other piece of software?
Does FSX crash on every startup or, say, 7 out of 10 times?
Recent software installations?

Sorry, I can't really think of much else at this point.
