After 6+ years of use fs9 took a turn last week I can not figure out. While on a simulated flight from Aurora Oregon to Livermore, Calif. and on final approach fs9 just snapped off straight back to the desk top as though it had not been in use. No error message or indication of any problem. From that point forward until the 1st of Feb. it would not allow any flight by any plane at any time other than during simulated hours of darkness, any attempt to do so resulted in an instant trip back to the desk top. Now since the 1st of Feb. fs9 will not even launch. Each attempt to do so shows indication that the launch command is sent and recieved but stops short of doing so. As of thiis point in time I have uninstalled and re loaded fs9 countless times including including any additional files and folders, run defrag, checked and cleared the registry, run anti virus and spyware programs and still it refuses to launch. As of this moment I have completly uninstalled fs9 again as well as all of my scenery software (mega scenery, mega city, ultimate terrain and Real Environment Extreme.) Once I'm sure eveything else is straight I'll begin the re load. ANY COMMENTS? My System: Gigabyte mother board, AMD triple core cpu, NVIDIA 9400GT video card, Rocketfish sound card, 2 Gig ram and Windows XP Professional.

Having done a reload of fs9 alone my success rate is still 0. I attempted to do a custom install with no luck whatever. I am begining to believe at this point that the problem is in my hardware and not the software. Got any computer whiz kids out there that might care to offer up possible culprits?

Take a look for a prgm called REVO Uninstaller. This little honey will remove any registry stuff left behind. You did of course remove the 9.1 update before you uninstalled the main pgrm ?

Hello,

99,99% chance it's not hardware problem.
If you are in the 0,01% ... you are very unlucky :)

Hi,

One cause of this "no-error crash" effect can be overheating of your system. If your PC is of a similar 6-years old you may want to check that the processor fan isn't being compromised by dust (or is actually running as fast as it should), and similarly the graphics card fan (although overheating graphics cards tend to cause "visual artefacts" rather than this type of problem.

Either way, with all the uninstalling you've done at this point the first thing to check is that a virgin installation of FS2004 runs as it should before adding any of your add-ons.

To be sure, my system as decribed is housed in a Thermaltake Mid Tower with a pair of 230 mm fans side and top as well as a pair of 120mm front and rear. Dust build up is indeed a problem and that is why my compressed air bill is so darn high. At this point I have lost track of the number of uninstall, re installs I have done and I have not yet loaded any of the periferal software because I have yet to get fs9 to launch. Since the program rolled over on me, in spite of all my effort and agony it refuses to budge. Command will be sent to launch, pilot light on the DVD drive shows reciept of command, spins up and then stops, it will not launch. I am utterly frazzeled.

have you done the uninstall outlined by opa that a previous poster pointed you to? unless and until you have done that you haven't really done a complete uninstall. maybe you have, but you haven't mentioned it, but i would try that 1st before anything else.

I just finished cleaning out left overs with REVO Uninstaller. I reloaded fs9 again and gave it the go command and as it has become so good at doing it rolled over and gave me the finger! Same routine, double click the fs9 Icon it sends the launch command the pilot light on the DVD shows reciept of the command the drive spins up and stops............NO JOY. Makes no difference from where or how I attempt to launch, it won,t budge.

my guess would be that DirectX was somehow smashed, most probably by another program you installed or updated.
some progs "tweak" DirectX by replacing .dll's. because of "newer version numbers" it takes a forced reinstall of DX to clean that up.

You said: '..on the DVD..'. Is that optical drive a 'Multi' drive, because FS9 is a CD, not a DVD. Or the drive is broken (ie: not able to even read a CD-that happens). Just my 2 cents.

if that were the case he wouldn't even be able to install fs9, gotta read the cd's to do the install.

i am not familiar with the Revo uninstaller, i did just visit their website and it looks like a good program, but since i am not familiar with it are i have to ask, are you sure that it removes the fs9.cfg file? if not, make sure that gets removed or renamed.

I am an admitted computer ignorant, but have you tried checking to see if your disk drive works when you insert any other software? I say this because an old laptop that I have all of a sudden stopped being able to load any software, I would insert the cd, it would spin, the green light would be there, and then it would stop spinning without loading the program.
