OK, so I downloaded the scenery package on here for Alexandria, Egypt and followed the installer routine, selecting fs2004 path which is correct.
Then I added it to the scenery.cfg.....rebooted the sim and .......nothing!
Absolutely nothing from this package is showing up.
Unfortunately the author has no contact details on the file and as it's had over 2500 downloads I was wondering if someone knew how to get this working?
Thanks
Andrew

I just downloaded the package (from the library here and from another source - the files were identical) and did a temp install of both the FS2004 and FSX versions.
The author has apparently not included a number of necessary files (as well as not including a contact method) so nothing displays for me either - in either version.
Strange that no one has reported the lack of a way to contact the author.
I also checked a few of his other offerrings - no contact info in any of them either.
Is no one checking to see if uploaders follow the rules here anymore?

Hello,
Is no one checking to see if uploaders follow the rules here anymore?
Methink you right there ...
No one is checking this simple rule ... only some users are checking
This is why sometime we have some pirated stuff running here for a while .. until a user make a wake up call http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb186/maur2/sarcastic.gif

I would post that file name here so that the rest of us can avoid his files. Also the administators can't check all of the Uploads.

This is the file (and author) in question -
Name: approachingalexx.zip (http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=147057) Size: 17,551,254 Date: 06-06-2010 Downloads: 2,919
http://www.flightsim.com/p/approachingalexx.gif FS2004/FSX Scenery--Alexandria Egypt. Contains two airports, Alexandria Al-Nuzha (HEAX) and Alexandria Burg Al Arab (HEBA). By Mohammed Alaa.
I beg to differ - Uploaded files "can" be checked.
Having volunteered as a Library Manager for over a year at Avsim I can tell you that if an upload there does not meet their requirements, the file is not posted and the author is sent a notice as to the reason(s). The author is given the option to correct his/her package and upload again. Files cannot even be uploaded there unless a valid contact e-mail is provided during the upload process.
In my opinion it boils down to a matter of how the uploading and checking of files is organized at any given site.

First of all a BIG thank you to David for actually taking the time to check this out for me, very kind indeed! ;-)
But, it gets worse.........read on.........
As you will know, the installer is an executable file (.exe) and these are well known to carry 'hidden' payloads like spyware and other malware. I scanned this file with Emsisoft AntiMalware before using it and it flagged it with a potentially unwanted payload...........I mailed the admins of this site and got the following response.......
"I get these complaints from time to time and it's funny, in virtually every case it's about a highly popular file that has already been downloaded thousands of times. I see that's the case here...this scenery has been in the library for more than half a year and has been downloaded 2861 times. I suspect if there really were any danger to it, one of those previous 2860 people would have noticed it"
So, it's been downloaded 2861 times and NO ONE noticed that it didn't work? Maybe they also didn't notice the malware that could be included either then? Sheesh! - how often are files in the library scanned and does anyone at all check them to see if they work in the first place? It seems not.
So who of you 2860 other downloaders have this running perfectly on their systems?

That's a very good question http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb186/maur2/sarcastic.gif
Edited:
it flagged it with a potentially unwanted payload
Had checked the EXE with ESET NOD32 and Malwarebytes security softs and they found nothing positive
For general info and for the sake of satisfying my curiosity .. can you give the exact name of the unwanted payload your security software discovered ?

No Library at any site actually checks uploads to see if they "work as advertised" - that would be an impossible task.
However ALL files when uploaded are carefully checked for viruses etc..
If someone reports a virus or malware flag after downloading a file, it is most likely a false positive. I have never seen a confirmed report of a virus etc. from any of the major DL sites - just false positives.
What virus checking program are you using?
BTW - I double checked the package again and find that it does work on my FSX setup - but not in FS2004. I apologize for the bad info in my previous post - I apparently had forgotton to activate it in FSX and that is why I was not seeing any change from the default.
The author must have a "light pole fetish" or something, as there are an enormous number of incorrectly scaled light poles very close to each other around the parking lots. Looks totally unrealistic to me.
Surely there is something better available somewhere.
