I'm busy with my first plane for FSX, a 1964 Piper Comanche 250. It will feature full VC, real sounds and real world textures. I have completed the fuselage and the two wings.

I intend to make this a real pride and joy, to the extend I will be able to, and make it available to all who may be interested for download.

I will keep you posted on the progress, and yes, I am excited, as this has been a goal for some time, the reason being NO Comanche for FSX is availble either as pay or freeware, which is a total shame. This is simply a legendary light that should have been done years ago with care.

I can still remember my first ride in the Comanche 250. It was Red! And I was 12 years old. I will never forget that ride, and I really look forward to your efforts on this classic plane.
Stan

ps. What's your ETA on your project?

Is yours to be freeware or payware? Either way, best of luck! :)

I have access to the ramp at my local airport where a couple of Comanches are parked. PM me with your email address if you need some exterior photos.

Excellent choice - a friend of mine owns a Comanche single - I shall look forward to this. :)

I am really greatfull for all the replies and help offered. Wow, this is why I participate in this forum and hobby. I do not want to disappoint. Stanp, I do not have an ETA yet, as I would lie, though I do not want to draw out the finalization. Rockinrobin, thanks so much. I will definitely take up your offer. Ragtopjonny, always so nice to have some comments from you. It will be freeware.

I am learning as I am developing this plane. It is a school for me also, but I set my heart on it to be professional and successful, as far as I can ensure that.

I cannot upload screenshots, even though I have permission. Anybody knows why?

I want to post screenshots, but cannot. Anybody would know why? Maybe a problem on the site? I have posted screenshots before.

I use photobucket - Free service, or you can go Pro for 9.99 - but upload your images there, and use the tags in placing your picture. The nice thing about Photobucket is they have the whole [img] tag thing all ready, you can just copy and paste it from their site to here.

Don't know whether this link will work, but there's no other way this site allows me to upload images.

Thanks John. What do you think? It's only the main exterior, without any further detail, but it's hundred percent to scale.

Sorry, link did not show. Will make plan to show the images!

Glad you got it working - it's coming along, nice shape for it - and nice and smooth - some how, I could NEVER master that part of model making :(

When you go in Photobucket, you copy the Image code, and then just post it in the body....piece of cake...:)

A bit o' feedback. Had to adjust some shapes, and added all the light housings, antennas, landing gear, pitot, etc.

I believe I'm done with the exterior, a shame you cannot see the cowling, which I am quite proud of.

Just note the landing gear animation is not done, thus it is in the position it will be as if it is on the ground. Obviously the gear shafts will be longer in flight, when it's done.

Hope you like it.

I forgot to mention, the little balancers on the rudder still need to be added, but can only be done after I have animated the rudder.

Hi guys, thanks for the interest. Yes, progress has been made. I have reshaped the fuselage, I believe it is now basically perfect, especially at the rear. The wheels were also redone, and compared to photos and drawing I have, on the dot. I have also reshaped the ends of the wings, and the ends of the horizontal stabilizer. (I am a pain in the butt when it gets to perfect shapes).

What took an awful lot of time was the windows and door. It was simply challenging, and I learned a LOT in that process. At some stage my whole fuselage got destroyed, then the right wing became inverted, etc. But the battle has been won. I have started with the virtual cockpit.

Also, I am starting up a new business, which has been taking a lot of my time. I am exhausted when I get home, and do not want to work on the plane in that condition. Things will stabilize within a week or two, but in the meantime I am working on the Comanche as and when I feel refreshed. Make no mistake, I am enjoying flying this plane in its "raw" form at present (and may I state that I am simultaneously working on the sounds, of which I have the correct engine sounds, and busy building and refining in FS Sound Studio), I cannot wait for the final product! In the meantime I will be learning about texturing, as I want to have bump mapping, etc. represented on the final product, which will be a true representation of a real plane. If anyone would be interested in assisting with texturing at some stage, what a pleasure that would be.

I will post some screens of the product as at present, hopefully you will be able to see the refinements in shape and other detail. You will not be able to see the door and windows, as animation has not been done yet.

Regards

Hi,

I'm envious of your project. I wouldn't even know where to start.
As far as including images I use this site:
http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshots/index.php
Simply upload the image (registration optional) and then copy the provided link and paste it where you desire.
Please keep us up to date with your progress.

Yes guys. I have progressed to some extend. My business has taken a big toll on my time, but I am starting to get some stability again, and will hopefully work on the plane again this weekend. Rest assured it will be finished in not too long a time. Thanks for the interest! You won't believe how it motivates one!

Hi. Thanks for keeping me going. My new business took SUCH a lot of resources (especially time!), I actually never knew it would be so intensive. In the meantime I am also moving house, so you can imagine what is happening in my life. I did progress with the Comanche. I simply need to finish the virtual cockpit, and I will be done with the modelling. My apologies for the delay, but it was things in my life I simply had to get over and done with. My time is becoming more available, and please know this project will not be abandoned. Actually, I am becoming very impatient to finish it, thus it will be done. I promised some screenshots of the progress, and will make effort to post it shortly. Your enthusiasm is highly valued.

vlooi, that's fantastic! The Piper Twin Commanche (a 1972) is the first light twin prop I got to fly in (when I was an 11 year-old), and I've been crazy about twins ever since. You're so right: I haven't seen a decent Commanche out in cyberspace, either. The one or two I did find weren't very good, and didn't last long on my hard drive. Heck, I don't even remember the sites I found them on.
I'm definitely interested in your project, and would love to have a copy! :pilot:

I found one out there without wing tanks and I'm repainting at the moment as the round the world craft used by Sheila Scott - this one wouldn't hack it though - no tanks. but its fun. test pix soon.
