I do a LOT of downloading of sceneries and planes, and also enjoy tinkering with scenery improvements and afcads, etc, which occasionally results in me completely hosing an install.
So, what I have done for quite some time now is to have a 'backup install' of FS9 available. It obviously helps if you have the hard drive space, or a USB stick or My Book type external drive.
I did a fresh install of FS9, and applied the 9.1 update. I then moved the entire FS9 folder to a USB stick, a small extra internal HD, and also to my My Book.
So, in the case of a snafu on my part, I can delete the FS9 folder from my Microsoft Games folder and then copy over the fresh install from one of my backup locations.
A fresh, patched FS9 install is a bit under 3 gigs, so if you can swing a cheap 4g USB stick, its at least less of a pain than having to dig out 4 disks.
