In the soaring tutorials one of the items taught is wave soaring and the other is ridge lift. I have been playing around with every weather combination that I can think of and cannot duplicate either condition in free-flight. I can get plenty of thermals though. What am I missing?

Hi,
Use a weather program such as Active Sky Evolution.

Default FSX has a type of "autogen" thermal, keyed to landclass. More advance lift/sink generally has to be injected via simconnect or missions. Take a look at CumulusX!

CumulusX does, indeed, let you set up ridge lift, based on winds and terrain. I don't think it does mountain waves, though.

I checked out the site last nite and it looks like it has been shut down. All of the entrys are dated in 2009 and the site would not let me join. Too bad, looked like a good site.

I just now tried it, and it has updates listed this month. Try again with this URL (http://virtualsoaring.org/).
