Any suggestions out there on what hardware to look for? Motherboard, chip, amt and type of ram, graphics card. ( I have right now a nvidia8800 gtx 768mb that I will add as second card) I want to be able to run FSX and FS9 trouble free with sliders on high. Please feel free to weigh in on any and all configurations ( I have a 2000.00 budget). Thanks

I've been working on a system for a while and have it saved on newegg as a public wishlist FlightSim1 (http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=10962694).(Subject to Revision)
It is inside of your budget, but, doesn't have an operating system assigned.
I think, so far as I've researched, it is the best bang for the buck for a system that includes an SSD each for the OS and FSX and a 1TB storage drive. The mobo and all drives are SATA III(6.0GB/s). Everything in the list has excellent user reviews. Add your favorite flavor of Win 7x64, Overclock to 4GHz+ and enjoy...Don

Very good config. I'd say pick up a quad CPU and then build the system around it. The best quad cpu is the one posted, Intel i7-950.

I posted a similar question here today if an i5-650 / 8G system / 460GTX would be adequate for smooth low-level flying around NYC at up to 1440x900.
No replies yet...my new box is that config (no gpu yet..hence the posted query today) and I have done plenty of 'homework' on this matter over the years I've been doing FS. I bought my first-ever PC (Commodore 64) for the sole purpose of running the brand-new 3-D full-color "Flight Simulator" by a software company in Champagne,Ill named SubLogic. As I said..I've studied and the Intel CPU is the only choice- cfor FSX right now because of superior internal cpu die aerchetecture. Just that simple. Benchmarks and user reviews verify. If an i5 with 8G system and a GTX460 can't cut it in NYC for my needs I might add a 2nd 460 in SLI (w/new mobo) and see then but I can't stomach the idea I might need to pony up $1,000 (or more) for a cpu chip that still might studder or stumble soemwhere down the line in a potential FSX scenario...so...I say screw it...my best effort will be the i5 / 8G / Win 7-64 / FSX is on 64G SSD / and the gtx460. Maybe a 2nd gtx460 later on...thats it!! LOL!

What's the application for 2 ssd's? 1 each OS and FSX? Hadn't thought of that if that is the application. Sometimes it might be cheazper tol buy a real Cessna and learn tol fly!

Maybe I over-simplified! My 64GB OS drive will also include my versions of AutoCAD, and Catia, which will regen faster on an SSD. Keeping FS versions on a seperate drive isolates them from other processes, and using an SSD should speed up any drive functions regardless of FPS.
I'm actually waiting for system specifics for MS Flight before pushing the Add-To-Cart button. A high-end 6 core may be in order...Don

[edit]BTW my C:\Games\Flight Simulator Folder is already over 50GB without any payware enhancements, thus the 128GB.

Or an XBox 360, time will tell.

Or an XBox 360, time will tell.I'm pretty sure the "Games for Windows Live" moniker says nay to that...Don

Might be waiting a while. I doubt it is going to be released for at least a year, and they aren't likely to release the requirements before then.

They are quite explicit on the MS Flight site that it is for Windows.

Thanks for the imput on computer specs, I always thought my dual core E6850, 4GB ram, evga 8800 GTX with 768 mb would be enough to run fs9 smooth as silk, and it did for awhile and then........It did not.....now I get the rediculous blurries, the low frame rate sputters the dancing horizontal lines and other odd graphic ocurrences...... I am sure there is a reason beyond the hardware for the graphic failures but I wish to enter the FSX arena (though some hard cores prefer FS9) and I wish to be on top of my game with appropriate hardware........................
