I think I may have a damaged flight dynamics file (see the RPMs not at Maximum thread). If I re-install the program and MSFS upgrade (over top of my existing FS directory) will it simply overwrite the Microsoft files leaving my other "gigabytes" of addons there and unaltered? I would of course back up my original directory. This would surely save me many hours.

NO!
just move the FS9.cfg file to your computer desktop. start FS. FS builds a new cfg. it is as if you 're-installed' FS.

Pardon my inexperience but I don't understand the process for moving to the computer desktop. What and where is the desktop? And where in all the wide world might I find the FS9.ctg file?

Hello,
If you don't like "Desktop" :( .. forget it .. :)
What he mean in other words:
Make a copy of your FS9.cfg ( save it in a folder .. for recover parts of it after .. hence your particular custom settings if any)
Delete the original FS9.cfg and relaunch FS2004
A fresh FS9.cfg will be created.
Dunno if this can help you ... (the creation of a fresh FS9.cfg)
And dunno if a "reinstall over" will help you either ....
Location FS9.cfg (OS WinXP) :) :)
C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9
Be sure you allow (files options of the explorer) to see hidden and system files

I was able to do as instructed but the low RPM problem did not go away. I will now move my old FS9.cfg back.

Before you reinstall FS9, be sure to backup all your existing folders. ( I use a remote hard drive ) You will lose all the addons, enhancements, ect and will need to reinstall. In my case, after I did the reinstall, I simply copied my major backup files BACK into the fresh install....AIRCRAFT, ADDON SCENERY, MODULES, ect, ect. There are some programs you will have to reinstall however. Hope this helps.

I have a seperate memory device with more than enough room to save the entire FS9 directory. If I don't get this problem cleared up soon, I will pick a rainy day and re-install. Worse things can happen so what the heck.
