Welcome!

I have the X52 and while I've been very happy with using it - loads of programmable options, etc. - it's not the easiest to setup to do exactly what you want it to do until you've worked out how the programming works, and there have been issues with the build quality - mine's had to be replaced once.

I think it would depend on how much $ you are willing to spend. I picked up my X52 for under $90 US. The Pro will set you back up to $199 US while the G940 will set you back $300 US. The big advantage of of the G940 is the fact that the stick is force feedback. Keep in mind too that this is the first Force Feed back system by Saitek.

I read a review on the Saitek Pro Flight X-65F where the guy stated he had the G940 and wasn't happy he wasted $300 on it because the stick didn't work. I'm assuming he was refering to the FF as he really didn't say how it didn't work. The X-65F btw will set you back up to $400 US....

First, let me say that the X-65 is a relatively new aspect for PC gaming : It is not a Force Feedback system per say. It is Force Sensing. It's much the same as you would find in the F-16. Probably one of the reasons it costs a bit more. It has a lot of potential and up to 608 commands possible without ever taking your hands off it. I have not been able to find any dimensions on it and I don't want to guess and give you a false impression. You can find the product at the link below, but there are others you can goto and probably get it at various prices.

I have the X-52 Pro (and the Saitek rudders), previously I had the X-45.

The X-52 is quite good and the MFD in FSX is invaluable as by using that, you can both avoid to open additional pop-up windows in the VC and easier change COM/NAV frequencies, ident and autopilot settings: it helps a lot.

The only negative remark I have is about the joystick: the centering-spring is too soft (IMHO) but you can easily fix it by adding some material that will increase the spring compression, making it stiffer.

Note: if you plan to use the X-52 Pro for other sims, check the availability of MFD plug-ins first, I am not sure all games are compatible. If you do not have a MFD plug-in available, then it makes no sense to buy the X-52 Pro, get the X-52 instead.

In my case, I removed part of my Saitek X-45's spring because I felt it was too stiff. I prefer the lighter X-52 spring.

From the way it sounds that might be the best one on the market with the joystick not having any moving parts but can sense the tension from your hands to know which direction you are commanding that is cool! The X52 has one flaw the rudder (Twisty feature) defects and misaligns after a while of usage! For the $100 price tag that shouldnt be but it is !

depner - With the little bit of research I did, you can find one for about $400-450US depending on where you look. I don't know what the exchange rate for the Austrilian dollar is, but it sounds like you paid more then you should have. Did that including shipping and insurance?

Edit: Just did a check. Turns out at $400.00US is equal to $444.92 Austrilian

If you are planning to buy the X-65F, better try it first in a shop if you can.

As it is the first joystick that does not move you have a totally different feedback compared to the others: some people like it, some people can't get accustomed and go back to a 'normal' stick.

The problem with the X65 is that it is useless for WWI and WWII prop aircraft. There was no such thing as force sensing in those eras. The X65 is completely ridiculous for that kind of simming.

I have been flying with the G940 for about a year now, and I really like it. I fly mostly GA twins and singles and the controls are great for those, like the dual throttles to steer twins that don't have steerable nose gear. The G940 also has no less than five trim wheels, two on the throttle and three on the stick so you can configure your trim the way you want it. This is especially important with older prop planes that don't have "fly-by wire." I also really like the foot pedals for realism.

I like the G940. I have not tried the X52 so I can't comment on it.

I'd say it's useless for ANY kind of simming.

I'm looking forward to TM warthog release, finally a proper looking replica, i'm just tired of these plastic, cheap-looking toys. It sits at the top of my 2011 buy list.

Boy oh boy oh boy, my Thrustmaster Warthog arrives tomorrow!

Sliderslot, I made a couple of pull out drawers with full extention slides to mount my HOTAS on. They slide out on either side of my chair and lock to provide a stable platform. Further, I designed a platform to allow the Warthog stick and throttle to swind down under the drawers so they hang out of the way when not in use. I can post pictures when they are installed if anyone is interested.
