View Full Version : Engine autostart gone.

I can't figure out how I did this, my engine auto start has gone when I boot up a flight. I now use ctrl + e to start. So I must have somehow turned off the auto start but I can't find my way back to turn it on (or off if I want to).

I've had a good look in the learning centre for an answer can't find one.

How can I fix that?

If you have saved a flight without the engine running, as the default flight, that could cause this problem. Try this. Start a flight in a parking spot or on the runway. Use control-e to start the engine. Now go to the menu bar at the top of the screen. If the menu bar is not showing press the alt key. Click on flights, then on save. In the Flight title box, give the flight a name. Doesn't matter what it is. At the bottom of the page is a box labelled" Make this the default flight". Put a check mark there. Click on ok, and you are done. All flights will now start with the engine running.

Check your "Assignments" dialogue - it is possible the CTRL E setting for auto starting the engines has gone AWOL.

I use this file (http://www.flight1software.com/files/FSXSafeStartup.exe), by Flight1, for a good complex/3rd party aircraft FSX default start flight.

From Steve Halpern, Flight One Software.
"It is very important that you start FSX in a clean configuration before loading 3rd party aircraft. This is actually very important for any complex aircraft. You can create your own simple flight, but here is one that is very basic and should allow you to load any complex aircraft safely.

The FSX Safe Startup for Complex Aircraft flight will show in your regular Flights menu in FSX after installing. You can re-save the flight in a new location, with different weather and start up times, but do not change anything else when saving this flight.

Important! You MUST start FSX with this flight for it to be effective. If you start FSX with another flight, load this one, then go to your complex aircraft, you may get undesirable results.

This flight has 40 mile visibility, with light clouds of medium thickness."

Thanks for passing on the tip, everything is fine now. :) Thanks also to Opaplano and Paxx.

What is a "complex aircraft"? Is any add-on aircraft, ie any non-default fsx aircraft?

Also, is not the fsx default flight - Friday Harbour - a safe start-up before loading a "complex Aircraft"?

In my opinion complex aircraft are aircraft that simulate the command and control systems beyond the basics for flight. The PMDG 747, Wilco PIC 737, A2A Piper J3 w/Accu-sim, Capt. Sim C130 and Flight1 Cessna Citation Mustang are examples of what I consider to be complex aircraft.

Could be, might be, might not. Your results may vary.

location is not the issue. the issue is the 'states' that FS stores for the panel. 'faulty' states for 'complex' aircraft result in the FS 'dead battery bug'.

load your flight at the airport and gate/parking location you wish to depart using a default FS aircraft ... say the cessna 172. set the avionics and batts to ON. wait 1/2 a minute and then switch to the 'complex' aircraft you wish to fly.

Hey all,

I just read Scobie's post about a dead battery bug...well I never heard of it but I caught it! I was sitting in my parked plane and enjoying the AI traffic listening to ATC and after 15-20 minutes my panel went dark. I never saw that before so I turned everything off and decided to restart my plane and take off.

It wouldn't crank and I had no instruments. It surprised me. When I restarted the game everything was fine. Is there a fix for this? I thought this only happened in my old car when I parked with the radio on.

good flights, Cal

Dead battery has been a problem for the last three iterations of Flight Sim.

Only know `cure` for default aircraft is the payware FSUIPC. Several aftermarket aircraft niclude their own fix for this irksome problem.

Other than that, the only cure is to NOT sit with battery draining - either start an engine, engage the APU or sit with everything OFF.

this is not the 'dead battery bug'. you experienced a dead battery. FS isn't realistic in how long a battery will last.

the 'dead battery bug' makes advanced payware not work correctly, or the panel fails after 10-15 minutes. has to do with FS not providing power to the plane's electrical system ... even though the plane is powered.

Is there a fix for this?
there is a 'fix' for the batts only lasting 10-15 minutes with FSUIPC. i believe you can also make the batts work forever with a simple fs9.cfg hack ... just forget the codeline (as i have FSUIPC).

How about this line in cfg's (Electrical) section? 'electric_always_available = 1' . Does it do what is says, or not? I don't see that line in electrical section too much anymore, so maybe it only will work with FS2k2 and before?
