I like the regional variations of the Southwest livery. I liked the silver out-of-the-box Northwest livery, too. http://www.airliners.net/photo/Northwest-Airlines/Airbus-A319-114/1665299/M/ The newest United livery will look good on the 787, I think. The new UPS livery looks a lot better than their trucks! I think they call them "package cars". http://www.airliners.net/photo/United-Parcel-Service/Boeing-757-24APF/1670623/M/ The white US Coast Guard ain't too shabby either, but it looks better from the front quarter. http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Coast/Lockheed-HC-130H-Hercules/1583239/M/ I am not so hot on the orange helo livery.

I'll second BA and American. BA's is simple yet elegant, but I think AA has the classiest livery around. Nothing can beat polished metal.

I had forgotten about PanAm until after I posted. The large letter logo was a refreshing departure for its time, and the Manhattan building a landmark. http://www.airliners.net/photo/Pan-Am/Boeing-727-235/1665494/M/ It is just not the same on a locomotive or boxcar! http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/8e/Pan_am_locomotives_rigby_20.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e8/Mec_31933_08-04-2005.jpg

I loved Braniff's Flying Colors! Used to see them all the time @ the old Stapleton Airport when I was a kid. I guess my favorites would be:
United 1970's and older
TWA
Braniff (see above)
Frontier Airlines (current)
The OLD Boeing Air Transport (early Airmail days or anything that used the old Boeing logo)
I also have an affinity for the fictional Trans Global Airlines from the movie 'Airport'.
Just my 2˘ worth...
Peace! :)

FITZY,
You're right Pan AM's logo doesn't look the same on Trains. I like the
thin blue stripe on pan Am too. I guess I never paid that much attention to trains.

Transcontinental Air Transport, late 1920's.
Nothing quite like have your own monogram bold on the fuselage side.

I always loved the old paint style that had the black antireflective paint on the nose in front of the windscreen.
Today, I'll go for those silver AA aircraft and I always thought Etihad's livery was very elegant.

I notice many simmers like "colorful" paints. I dont.
I wonder if when buying a car, would you enjoy having a pinky or art colorful car ?, or you would go for a straight classic color.?
When you want to be well-dressed, do you choose a strong colorful shirt, or a classic color with a small brand logo on it?
I dont like the current "all-white" or "mainly-all-white" that many airlines adopt either.
White is nice, classic and the best color (like in boats), but its use in airlines is so widely spread that becomes boring.
I think the classic paints of the 60s and 70s were the best.
Part bare metal with a solid line color below the windows, clear logos, they were much apealling. Colorful paints were associated with Caribbean airlines or holiday-bound resorts.
Like when you wear a beach T-shirt, sandals, and shorts..:)
