View Full Version : ~ WORLD TOUR ~ LEG 18 Flying to Baffin Island

Hello all!

Welcome to Leg 18. Today we are battling through tough icy snow storms across Canada to Pangnirtung airport which is situated on Baffin Island. A place you wouldn’t want to be on your own without shelter for too long.

During the flight my Citation had a few issues, I couldn't disable the autopilot on a few occasions and whilst descending I experienced a strange instability contributed greatly by the rough winds and turbulence.

But the landing... Oh my... due to the ice build up on the runway I couldn't stop once I was on the deck, sliding and slithering all over the place I left the runway at 60knots and went hurtling down an embankment JUST stopping short before taking a plunge in the water. Luckily I managed to make it without hurting me or the aircraft and a gentle climb back up to the airport went without a hitch.

Phew, glad to be back on the ground after this one!

Very nice set of shots of the ongoing tour. Looks like the weather could have made things a bit tricky. Oh, and I like that panel -- I'll have to look for that one for my Citation.

Nice shots Steve, that was quite an arrival! I flew there in the Canadair C-4 some time back, that runway is deceptively short.

Steve, I can see you are another proud member of the Peerhoven Flight Academy™ :D:D lol. Just kidding my friend, we all make these landings, at least you kept your bird in one piece!! I don't think I have a mechanic shop that far north, but I can be there soon if you need me.

Anyway, lovely shots mate, really enjoyed this leg. See you in the bar!! :D:D.

Haha I've certainly only JUST made some of my trips on this world tour without crashing, luckily Dave the Citation hasn't suffered so you won't have to step outside in the freezing cold away from the bar to fix her up!!

Thanks everyone once again, I'm flying to Greenland tonight in something a little bit different...
