This is a suggestion to mods, perhaps already considered.
At least to me, I usually enter the Forum looking for something "interesting" related to the game, the flightsim itself. What is this "interesting" ?

Well, since I have the game installed, and it is running ok, no problems with hardware or software, and Im not in the mood to buy anything either, "interesting" are freeware enhancements, (or paywares without their own forum) to the game that are placed in the Library or elsewhere, where you can comment, make news of a new one you have tried, be it a sound, aircraft, scenery, panel, etc.

Current situation is that NO Forum seems to be a goodie for this purpose:

OUTER MARKER General aviation where you´ll see anything from recent earthquake to some airline gossip or future of sims or warming of the planet.

FSX FORUM More a support for problems related to hardware/software tweaks, etc

The main paywares have their own forum. But how many of you would like to see a forum where you look for new "enhancements" addons, and strictly that and nothing else, that will add to your gameplay immediately.

Say a thread...New Piper Apache: found this little old plane, its amazing, well done, ..
or Galapagos Islands: just flown on this addon and its amazing the reallistic depiction of the island and wildlife marine bla bla bla..

A Forum where simmers would just share addons, enhancements that can be immediately tried, comment, suggest, etc. Not being lost in focus where people have several other needs, specially voicing problems, etc.

Everytime I want to start FSX I check flightsim Forum first to see if there´s any news (related to the game, I mean GOOD news) as there was in the past, of course I know how to search the Library (which is full of repaints or AI anyway), its not just finding, its sharing discoveries, trying-outs, etc. Today if you praise a shareware or small payware people think you are selling or part of the developping team. And even if this will happen, let it be...let it happen in a specific Forum for addons. Marketing for free? Its just a forum.

Probably you would think it will be redundant to all the Forums already there, but this is my feeling. I dont find any Forum interesting related to the gameplay.
thanks

How about if the add-on is for FS02 users post it there?

If it is for FS04 users post it there?

If it is for FSX users post it there?

If it is free advertising how will the companies that pay for advertising feel about this?

Jim's got the right idea. If everything were posted in one forum, there no doubt would be people asking "What sim is that for", etc.

Yes, I know its probably not possible. I agree with impracticals mentioned.
But still...wouldnt it be great :)

You know, one Forum that is very succesful and doesnt mix with off-topic or unrelated issues is the "Screenshot Forum". The guys there are very loyal to that Forum, frequent poster names and many of them use that forum only.

The reason is simple. Its a Forum with a specific subject "screenshots" so regulars that love to share pictures from either FSX, FS9 or FS2002 (see darren, Drobson, Jim?) If its a beautiful screenshot of a flightsim in-game pic, post it, share it.

Replying to Jim, free advertising:
a Forum can contain favorable opinions by users, consider it free advertising maybe, but its just a forum. One comment after the other. A chat. Moderator´s job would be to forbid any negative remark against addons, free or pay, and mind you, it wouldnt be a forum to comment on PMDG or Captain Sim, cause everybody knows these. No Blockbusters. Just art or underground art addons. Like Cinema. :)

Should be, like the Screenshot or the new Video Forum, a place to share interesting addons which might have passed our attention, specially freewares and useful files.

Therein lies one of the problems! It would/could turn in to a bashing of developers, which we've strived for too many years to eliminate. An honest review is OK, but rarely done without bashing.

As to the FS2002/9/FSX forums, that's one of the reasons we have them--discussion of those sims and anything related.

Could it not be a a matter of ground rules, only post remarks for products that work ie no bashing of any sort if it dont work dont post, and if you do bash you get banned from the forum simple. After all its to let others know about stuff they will want. As for payware producers. I often troll through adverts here on flightsim, avsim and countless other sites, and in email ads I am sent so I think they are more then adiquatly cattered for. Also if the groundrules state that the title must be the product name and target sim I believe that would be adhered to.

The problem is, not many people care about "ground rules" if they are mad and upset about something.

We've been there and done that, and don't want to return.

The best thing to do, is make use of the current forums.

I'm gonna go work on the Sentra, the mental logistics of the possibility of a new forum are overwhelming. A complete engine overhaul takes less far less exasperation.
