It's finally happened to me:(! FS9 has gave me the limit warning! We know that dreaded message that says "You dont have enough memory to run FS9, the program will stop"
I guess after 159 sceneries about 162 different type aircraft and all the scenery enhancers, it takes a toll on the memory! Sure I have a ton of space to keep adding more addons, But my computers memory has MAXED out! Time to get more memory! :D Thought I would never see this day but it has arrived! Hell I got is 3gb in my machine its time to make that 4gb I guess!
I laughed when I saw that message! :o All the love and its like my PC has told "listen here mack, I can only do so much, you need to chill with all this stuff!"

Hi,
Would like to see Task Manager/Performance Tab just to see if your machine really is OOM. All the planes don't load, nor do the scenery enhancers. Much is just replacements for default stuff and is the same size.
Do a reboot, shut down unnecessary programs, and run FS and I'll bet things are fine.

yea I did that already and the sim loads now, but I still need to get more memory! I dont know how big a file FS9 is on a fresh install! But after all the stuff you add to it, it really gets up there! I thought I had 3 GB and I actually only have 2GB!!! I just remembered 4 slots and each has a 500mb memory stick in them! Time to replace atleast two of those with a 1Gb stick!

You might want to check the Wiki in the top menu on the main site for the OOM error cure.
It can be a hassle....good luck! :)

Only 162 planes.... I have over 850. Lots of add on scenery and afcads by the hundreds for the rest of the world MS missed.
I think you have a different problem from too big a program. Mine is about 50 GB and with 2 Gb memory runs great.

Whaaaa...?!?!
Definitely check the wiki and read up about the out of memory errors. Simply adding more physical RAM likely won't solve the problem, especially as under 32 bit Windows systems you will only have access to about 3.2GB if there is 4GB of RAM installed.

So far i'm batting 1,834 Aircrafts & 211 Sceneries
Whaaaa...?!?!
LOL I know some people have staggering numbers. Makes you wonder what is truly the maximum FS9 can handle before barfing up and quiting. LOL

I have over 1200 aircraft, more than 1500 afcads, tons of scenery, which take up a total of over 210 gig on my hard drive, and my sim works great with high frame rates and no OOM errors. I used to get it often, but then I did some major troubleshooting and found my main culprits to be aircraft addons that were incomplete (missing one or more textures, or missing .cfg file, or .air files), and the main culprit, AI traffic files (trafficXXX.bgl files) which were calling aircraft that were not in my library. There is an old program called ACA2007 (Aircraft Traffic Analyzer 2007) by Peter van der Veen, which will analyze all your aircraft and traffic files in FS2004 (and FSX) and gives you a list of all the errors with your aircraft, along with duplicate airport files. It won't fix them for you, but will tell you exactly what is wrong with everything, and where the files are. This might be a big help for you.

This might help:
http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html
I use it and I've never had a OOM issue, even with only 3GB of RAM and hundreds of planes and sceneries...

I did a little house cleaning of scenery files sitting in the fs9 installed scenery directory. Havent scene the message pop up again since then. But if you guys feel that it may not be a lack of memory but an error with the memory itself. You got me thinking if the 500mb chip board I installed from an "E-MACHINE" Pc might be causing the issue in my "DELL". That might be malfunctioning you think?
Gee guys you just made me feel small time indeed:o 850 - 1,200 aircraft! How in the world do you keep track of all those planes and do you use all of them (how many of those are actually AI, because my 162 are all planes that i use at different airports and scenarios around the FS9 world!

The message you received is very misleading. The "out of memory" is not referring to physical or even virtual memory...
...rather it is referring to "Virtual Address Space" which is a completely different concept altogether.

Hello,
My name is Gus and I'm an addict.

the problem lies my friends, is like most of humans you base your happiness in the plus (+) sign, always more, more, more...rather than thinking in to have , think more in to be....not to have more money but to be a better human being...not to have more girls but to be a better father...and so on.
you might have 1000 aircrafts but maybe you don't have the peace of mind to take a two hour flighy just enjoying the scenery and think what would be like to actually be there...is it maybe that after 5 minute flight all you are thinking is to go back and download one "more" plane?.. you claim to be flight sim anthusiasts but what you are is just downloading freaks....tell yourself you won't check the forums and dont download anything for a month, just enjoying flying and then you will actually be a true flight simmer.
think again when you think you are cool when saying you have many planes,
design one and uploaded and then you will be cool, in the mean time youre just talk...
hmmm...just a lil peace of my mind...enjoy

So true, so true. I go through crazes where I need one particular aircraft and an airport and I just have to do that flight. For a month I was having to do an Austrian 777 from JFK to Vienna. Even purchases Flytampa's Vienna. Just never got around to it. Now I'm obsessed with doing a South African 346 to Johanasburg. We're so spolied. Let's face it, a large part of the fun here is not just the flying but all the different liveries, airports etc. Great fun!!!

Have you ever met a model railroad enthusiast ? Now there is an obsessive hobby.
FS is not dissimilar. I have Ultimate traffic and all the Russian flight plans and the Russian planes that go with them and some WOAI. Plus some local stuff I've done myself. To make it better I've added every Eastern European, ASIAN and Russian AFCAD I could find.
When I decide it's time to travel I can look forward to meeting lots of aircraft along the way. That adds a huge boost to the overall experience. When I arrive the parking places are full.
Yes It's nice to sit back and plan a flight and then execute it, but without all the extra nuances of AI and scenery it's a little boring.
It's like building a model railroad... it never ends and I hope it continues this way.

I have the peace of mind to take a two hour flight just enjoying the scenery and KNOW what it would be like to actually be there. I know that flying anywhere near big cities or busy airports or scenic areas is going to wind up having you looking for other aircraft flying in the area. You see, I am a real world pilot, so I like having an environment more like the real deal, which includes lots of traffic in the air. That is why I have so many aircraft. Most are for AI only, but I do have more than 100 or so that I do fly on a regular basis, from homebuilts to gliders to single and multi-engine to commuter jets to heavies and military big and small to rotocraft. I am not a downloading freak. I look for particular aircraft for particular flights. Some are to replace older, less detailed or poor performance aircraft, some are for testing, and some are for scenery designing. It is not uncommon to buy a traffic addon that will give you several hundred all in one pop. I definitely don't think I'm "COOL" for having so many aircraft. I wasn't trying to brag or make anyone feel inferior to myself. The only reason I mentioned how many I have was to make a point in relation to the purpose of the original post, to let him know that the out-of-memory does not necessarily have anything to do with how many planes or other addons he has. I fly several hours almost every day, some by myself, but alot of time I fly on line with other pilots, so I do spend alot more time flying than I do being cool by downloading more aircraft. I design scenery, and doing so I like to include just the right kind of traffic, so sometimes it requires me to look for some that I don't have already. And as addons improve in quality and performance, I replace some old with some new. Not to mention I have been simming for over 15 years, so I've had plenty of time to download what I have. Through my experiences I have found things related to these aircraft that can cause out-of-memory errors, so I figured I would share some of my knowledge, which was the only reason for my post. I like to help other flight sim enthusiests, not cut them down because it sounds like they are bragging. So, if you don't mind, I think I will go flying........then after that, I've been eyeing that "Traffic 2010"......maybe I'll even buy it to give me even more aircraft. This would be reaaly cool.
Have a nice day!
