This issue has been discussed many times, many threads in the forums. Best advice, not trying to be rude, try them and see. That's the best ANYONE can advse you.
If you look in the File Library here at Flightsim.com you'll see many properly converted planes in the description of the files.
Good luck with your efforts! I gave up on alot of older ones because they are not, and display with missing wheels/gear etc...
Welcome to the forums too, by the way! :D.

Few will due to gauge problems.

You can use FS9 aircraft in FSX. Just replace the panel files with those used by another FSX aircraft. You don't have to use the gauge files that may be used with the FS9 model.

But Bob,
You forget to mention the fact that some VISUAL Elements will not show like I had in the prior post. I noticed for a fact pending the program that compiled the monitor, Landing Gear, wheels, sometimes even propellors don't show up. I think that would be just as important, no?

Gauges built for FS9 will work fine. Gauges from FS98 and earlier will not. The thing to understand is that many planes built for FS9 could have "dud" FS98 gauges in them which can often be replaced.
Most of the other issues regarding FS9 planes show up when using Acceleration or Service Pack 2. These visibility problems are often corrected by adjusting the alpha layer of the part's texture.
