I heard that you need to blend the alpha (whatever that is) with a different shade of grey, but I don't have a clue how to do that. Anyone want to help?

By Making the Alpha layer darker , you will certainly get a shiny aircraft ,but will it look like bare metal ?
That is for you to decide

The most effective way is to make different panels different tints of grey
I use a very transparent blue tint overlay too...not enough to look blue but enought so take away the 'cold black' of the grey.
Try a slighly mottled or patchy overlay at low opacity. You can also have different tints panels on your alpha grey to give some panels a different amount of shine.
Trial error and experiment is the way forward.
