I have issues similar to this. I have them with onboard sound and my new X-FI card. The are most noticeable with the CLS 747.
The first one is a swishing sound that comes and goes. It usually starts up after I move out of the VC for the first time in a flight. It sounds similar to a aircraft moving to you and then away from you. I have been told that this is "phasing" and it is the result of poor quality sounds but the CLS stuff sounded great on my old system.
Second is a loud rumble sound from the engines. This also appears after switching to an exterior view. Once I go back in to the VC, the sound stays there for a while. Wind sounds also seem magnified while this other sound is present.
What is seems like is these sounds are not being dumped after switching back to an interior view.
This brings me to another issue. I have had a few issues with disappearing aircraft and scenery textures at the end of flights. I can do and 11 hour flight those is smooth as butter then everything goes haywire 30 miles out. The going haywire is usually triggered by switching views or something. You may be asking, what does this have to do with sound?
When researching the texture issue, I found that many think Windows 7 64bit has an issue with memory management and FSK. I am wondering if the sound and texture issues are related.
A lot of people are blaming the texture issue on the PMDG MD-11 but I think the MD-11 is just triggering another issue. From most accounts, it is the most complex aircraft available for FSX and something that complex could trigger other problems because it is push the system to the max. I'm not flying the MD-11 but I have very high scenery and weather settings.

Have you disabled the onboard sound when you installed the X-Fi...? I have an X-Fi Titanium and I have to reduce the base level using the speaker hardware, or the the sound sometimes gets "strange" with certain aircraft. SPOFF

Yep, I disabled it in BIOS. With Creative, I am suing no effects and the EQ is off. As mentioned, I had the same problem with the Soundmax onboard sound.
