View Full Version : Why Can't I Install Any Programs Into Windows 7?

I just bought a new FSX computer with Windows 7 64bit OS.
It has dual Blu-ray Disc Player and CD/DVD Burners.

All I've done so far is install FSX. Nothing else.

I put in the install discs for FSX add-on's like GEX, UTX
and REX2.

It will start installing then show a message identifying a particular
file that it says is either corrupted, can't be used or can't be read
from the CD-ROM.

Then it will terminate the install process.

I managed to get FS Genesis installed by constantly hitting the ignore
button when it displayed corrupted files.

Now, I know that there's NO way possible that all these add-on's,
which are new, ALL contain bad files.

And it's a brand new computer, so I doubt it's a hardware problem.

This problem is the same in both DVD/CD burners.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

Turn off UAC in Windows.

Make sure FS is installed outside of any Program Files folders.

Quite a few program install CD/DVDs seem to have problems with the Blue-Ray player versions installed in many new computers. One reason I recommend people not get two Blue-Ray, just one and a second normal DVD/CD player/recorder.

I got that same message when I tried to install several games (IL2: Forgotten Battles, Far Cry, Rome: Total War plus a few huge game demos, NFS: Shift, ArmA II, World In Conflict) on a fresh virgin install of Windows 7 64-bit.

I waited a few days and attempted reinstalling them. They installed mostly okay the second time around. Apparently, Windows Update downloaded some Windows fixes that allowed the installation of those games. A lot of them were MS Visual C++ files. At least I think they are since they were the only new updates at the time.

I thought I bought some shoddy hardware at first (the DDR3 1600 RAM and PSU) and was going to RMA them at newegg.com. Good thing I waited first. It's Windows' fault. :D

I tried the Ignore thing. It didn't work. I mean some of the installs finished. But none of the games would even start.

Windows 7 is really throwing me for a loop.

I skipped Vista and just now went straight from Windows XP
to Windows 7.

I'm re-installing everything now as JSkorna told me.

What else do I need to know about Windows 7?
Is there a place where all this is written down?

XP is looking better and better?
I knew it like the back of my hand.

Most of the tips regarding FSX and Vista also apply to Windows 7, so do a search on Vista in this forum and skim through what comes up.

If you spend the time to learn how Windows 7 works, I think you will find it a better system overall. While it is still Windows, it is different and will require re-learning how to do some things. People often forget that we've had XP around for so long that we don't even think about how much was involved in learning to run and use it. Just because XP did something one way, doesn't mean that was the best way. Windows 7 is the first release of Windows where Microsoft has really sat down and thought about the user interface.

If you have questions about Windows 7, you can ask questions in the Software forum here as well. Overall I much prefer the way Windows 7 works, but it does take some getting used to.

Thanks, that's encouraging!

Maybe the people that sold you the computer would allow exchanging the DVD/CD drive for a better one; it could be of poor quality. And you could also remove the Blue-Ray software and drive and try installing your add-ons.

The software you are trying to install I installed without a glitch with same o\s.

Thanks.

I was wrong, only the top one is Blue Ray.
The bottom one is a normal DVD.

I followed JSkorna's instructions and everything works perfectly now.

I continue to learn more about Windows 7 everyday.
