as you can see the fuse is a chromey black. when it should be a nice pink red with santa and elves etc on it. on the left is the texture folder. The 2 bitmaps are my work and ive tried removing one but still same results.
Should i some how make the bitmaps a dds file like the normal pmdg textures? And how would i go about doing so.
Any suggestions would be better thn nothing:)

I see a couple things.
First, yes you should use DDS textures.
Second, you have to use the correct naming convention. You cannot rename textures to something convenient for you.
The model is coded to look for specific file names and on this bird PMDG_J41_Fuselage_T_Dirty is not one of them.
to convert the image files you can use DXTBmp available for free from - http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/

Well just off the top of my head, you're filetypes aren't visible on any files, yet the dds textures are carrying the .dds in the filename
So that means your files are named myFileName.dds.dds Remove the .dds from the filename and that way it turnes into "myFileName" with the .dds as the filetype.

When i take the dds out of the file name, it says its just a file as its type:confused:

The reason your texture does not show up is because it has the wrong file name.
The paint kit includes both PMDG_J41_Fuselage_T_Clean and PMDG_J41_Fuselage_T_Dirty. This gives you two different looks to choose from.
In the readme it states -
To add your livery to FSX, copy one of your existing JS4100 livery folders and rename the copied folder. Merge or flatten all layers of your PMDG_J41_Fuselage_T_Clean (Dirty) map
then virtically flip it.
DO NOT SAVE! DO NOT SAVE!! DO NOT SAVE!!!
Copy this flipped map, open the livery folder that you've just copied and renamed, open the PMDG_J41_Fuselage_T and paste your livery map here. Save this in DXT5 format. Emphasis added by me.
You have to re-name the texture for it to show up on the plane.
Also, somewhere in your folder options you have a check in a box that "hides extensions for known file types", or something like that.
In XP, while looking at a folder, click on tools on the menu bar. Then select "folder options..." and look on the "view" tab. Other OS's might be different.
If you remove that check mark you will see all file extensions. I recommend you do this.
