Just bought a gforce 220 and installed it on my computer. Followed all instructions for install and I have ZERO SOUND. It tells me there is no sound device detected? What the heck does this mean and is there a fix?

Thanks for the quick replies
Landon

Hi,

You could try re-installing the sound drivers for your sound card or see if there is a conflict between your new video card and your sound card.

Thanks,

Look in windows device manager for any exclamation point. you may have conflicting devices. If so, shut down, disconnect the from the wall outlet, remove the last card that caused the issue, and reseat it, and power up.

How do i find them?

Your options are:

1 - If you have the sound card install disk, use it to install the drivers

2- check the sound card manufacturers website for the appropriate download according to the Windows version that you're using, and download them there

3- or you can click on windows update to get it for you as the last resort

What operating system are you running? Is your sound card the default audio device? Most recent nVidia and ATI video cards also support sound through their HDMI ports and the default may have changed on you.

Im running windows xp. Thats all i know. That seems to be whats happening. When I go to device managers and sound, It says there is no sound device detected. This has happened twice with two different cards. How can I set my sound back to default? Will buying a new sound card get my sound back?

Thanks
Landon

What I was talking about was just having the default sound card changed to using the video card, not having all sound cards disappear completely. The audio support provided by the video cards still shows up as a sound card.

What are the complete specifications of your system, including the different sound cards and the new PSU? In the device manager are there are any devices with a yellow exclamation point on them at all?
