It has been awhile, but here is the next leg of my round the world flight in the P-38. I am leaving out of Beijing Airport (ZBAA) for Khomutovo Airport (UHSS). The Beijing Airport is by FRAME-RATE-FRIENDLY Studio/William Morgan (zbaa3.zip).

It was a foggy morning so I was expecting some more white out flying as I have in the past.

All the big birds seem to be at a distance from me as I taxied out for take off so I didn't get a good view of them.

I waited impatiently for clearance to take off.

My impatience was misplaced as I was treated to an upclose landing of Delta Airlines Boeing 737-400 coming in for a landing. It was the FS9 default aircraft with the Delta Airlines texture by Tony Potter (b737_dal.zip). Sorry I didn't get a closer view. I was too busy trying to keep it in view, hit the "print screen" button; and enjoy the view as well.

After take off, I took a look outside back towards the airport and realized how much I missed flight simming. It was a superb view.

Of course not all good things last and I was stuck in instrument only conditions.

Thankfully things started to clear up a bit and the view outside the cockpit was wonderful.

Night creeped up on me quickly so I didn't get any sunset shots. OK, I fell asleep in the cockpit.

I wasn't that far out when I noticed I was still at 16,000 feet. At that point I had already started my down wind leg. Thankfully I had showed a lot of patience and had gone a good ways down wind. I put it into a steep banking dive to line me up with the runway. Still I had trouble locating the runway when I got settled in for final. The GPS showed it was straight in front of me. I kept thinking that I was still too high and it was right under my nose. I put the nose down just a bit and still nothing. Up ahead I could just make out a cloud and determined that it may just be beyond that cloud. At this point I could make out the buildings pretty well. I was so happy to see those runway lights. How did any one fly without a GPS? After all that I was able to bring it in for the prettiest landing I had yet made in the P-38 and I did it with out any glide slope lights.

Taxing was a bit problematic as my landing light was so dim I couldn't see it. I tried a couple of different halo textures and ended up downloading Nick's LightFix version 2 by Nick Needham and that gave me just enough light to park my P-38.

The Khomutovo screney is a bit dark so I couldn't get any good shots. I lined up the P-38 with one of the well lit buildings to get the shadowed outline of the P-38 parked. It was a pretty nice effect.

I'll leave the sim running all night so that it will be daylight when I get up tomorrow, after that I have to decide my next leg of the flight. This last leg pushed the fuel gauge into the red and I don't want to do that again.

cool to see a DAL734 in China...Don't think they've been there before. Also excellent plane of choice for a tour of Asia. :D :D

Thanks Simon and Gary. I'll try, but my back decides what I do or don't do. I aim to make a concerted effort to complete this flight around the world as soon as can. It will be my last round the world trip. It will be short flights from there on out.

Thanks ytzpilot. I had gone through quite a bit of trouble to put in Hainan Airlines and a few other Chinese airlines at the Beijing Airport. I replaced all the default aircraft in the flight plans that flew out of Beijing and the one aircraft I get close enough to recognize it's tail fin is a Delta Airlines flying in from another city outside the country. I had gone to a other cities in the flight plans in China and replaced those aircraft as well. Go figure.

The P-38 is my favorite. Especially the Virgina Marie texture. I have more recent versions of David's P-38, but this texture will not work on them.

Thanks Adam. I have already decided my next leg, but I may be a little delayed in flying it. While taxing out for the next destination. I decided to watch an An-72 land and noticed it was rocking it's wings one way and then another. So I decided to fix it and now it is no longer rocking but is flying like it is on a roller coaster. Ugh. Anyways I hope to have the next leg coming shortly.

Mike! Great to see you here, my friend. Been hoping all is well for you these days. Excellent post with a mighty fine plane, pal. What is it these days with pilots falling asleep in the cockpit, huh? :p That view on climbout is truly breathtaking. Fine commentary here. Hoping you will be able to hang out here now & then. :)
