I have a friend who is having problems with Outlook Express. Whenever he opens OE, the messages all go to the Deleted folder, instead of the Inbox. The check mark in Options is checked so that new messages should go to the inbox. Instead, all messages go to the deleted folder. I've checked his Block Senders list, and the only addresses in there are spam addresses. None of his trusted addresses are shown there.

Anybody have a solution?

Thanks,

Darrell

What are the junk email settings set to? If they're too high it could catch legitimate emails. Are there any mail rules set up?

Attachments on these e-mails? There is a setting to allow/block those.

Edit: How many read messages are in his In Box? OE Express does not like it when this file gets too large.

I guess I forgot to check the junk settings. There are no message rules setup. I'll check the junk settings and see what they are.

Some messages have attachments, but most do not. I should add that this is a brand new computer, and, I assume, that the computer person transferred all messages from the old machine. The new machine is XP. He also has switched from a dial-up connection to cable high speed. I don't think it's the new provider. He may have to have the tech that transferred everything from the old machine to the new come back and trouble shoot it for him.

Thanks to both of you!

Probably better off not using Outlook Express altogether. Microsoft cut development on it at least 6 years ago and it has a horrible security track record.

Have a look at Thunderbird and Sylpheed.

Outlook Express was first replaced by Windows Mail, and now by Windows Live Mail. Probably would be a good idea to move up to Windows Live Mail as it is the currently supported version and will be receiving security updates, unlike Outlook Express.

(Note that you don't need to install any of the other Windows Live apps if you don't want to)

This is on a friends computer, (who has very limited knowledge of computers in general), so anything new to him would certainly confuse him. :) I've got windows mail on my laptop, but really don't like it. Windows Live Mail is even worse as far as I'm concerned.

I haven't been back to his office to check his security settings, but that may be the problem.

Hi All,

After reading this whole thread, I updated to Live Mail. And in the 24 hours since, I think it is better than Express and WAY better than Outlook.
