I have done a clean reinstallation of FSX, installed SP1 and SP2, but the Acceleration expansion will not install. When I run the setup.exe from the Acceleration DVD, the Windows Install box flashes on the screen momentarily, then disappears and the install never happens. There must be a "ghost" of Acceleration in my system but I can't find it. When I use the Remove Programs Utility, Acceleration is listed but will not Remove - message says, "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed." I have run a registry cleaner and the Windows Uninstall Clean Up utility, but no success in removing the old Accleration. Any ideas, folks?

Hi Folks

rjpart -
You cannot install BOTH standalone SP2 and Acceleration.
Acceleration already contains SP2, (extended version).

You need to uninstall SP2
then install Acceleration .

Hey, Get a copy of "REVO Uninsaller" (Google It) and run that. This program will search your root directoryies and find all traces of the program that you are trying to remove and clean the regetry as well.

I was having a similar problem and chatted with a Microsoft technition and gave him the permission to control my computer to find out what was the problem with reinstalling FSX and the Expansion. One of the things that he did was install the REVO Uninstaller and then performed the installation of FSX and the Expansion and every thing worked after that.

Good luck,

Dave

Hi Folks

Dave -
This is not a cleanup issue.

User has installed standalone SP2.

Acceleration will not install
as Acceleration already contains SP2
and can only be installed onto SP1.

Thanks BAsys,

From what the gentleman said in his original post, it sounds like there is something causing the Acceleration program not to install. From what I found out when I was having a problem there are files that do not uninstall when you use the Windows uninstall program and they are left in the root direcories of the system. The REVO program goes deeper than the Windows Uninstall program and searches out those residual files and removes them.

You are correct in your statement that SP2 is installed via Acceleration and should not have been installed prior to installing the Acceleration program.

If he has done the complete uninstall using the Windows uninstall program or the one that is part of FS and he still cannot reinstall the Acceleration, what is the harm in using the REVO program that I suggested to completely remove all the files that may be causing the reinstall not to take. He will only be losing the time that it takes to download and install the REVO program and running it. If it allows him to then reinstall FSX and The Acceleration package then it is worth it. As it is, Acceleration is not working.

Hi Folks

Dave -
Please read carefully.

I have done a clean reinstallation of FSX,
installed SP1 and SP2,
but the Acceleration expansion will not install.

You need to uninstall SP2
then install Acceleration

it sounds like there is something causing the Acceleration program not to install.
SP2 is preventing Acceleration installing.

If he has done the complete uninstall
using the Windows uninstall program
or the one that is part of FS
and he still cannot reinstall the Acceleration,
what is the harm in using the REVO program
Because it's sweet F/A to do with the issue !!!

It's a PICNIC (http://www.internetslang.com/PICNIC.asp).

The user has not uninstalled SP2.
