A 40 minute jaunt in a Cessna 170 takes me inland to Launceston and my final Tasmanian stop.

Leaving Devonport and turning back to follow the coast to Georgetown.

View of Launceston from the cockpit. Launy is the second largest Tasmanian city behind Hobart and has a population of over 100,000. Located at the juncture of the North Esk, South Esk and Tamar rivers, Launy has been a city of firsts, including being the first Australian city to have underground sewers and be lit by hydroelectricity. It was also the site of the first use of anaesthetic in the Southern Hemisphere.

Approaching the airport to the South of the city, I have been instructed to make left downwind and circle to land on runway 32. This means I have to keep the airport to my left as I fly the downwind leg, turn left 90 degrees after passing the airport for the base leg then turn left 90 degrees again to final approach.

Parked at the airport.
