Hey,

Just thought I'd introduce myself.

I've been using FS9 for about 2 years got FSX about 9 months ago. I'm completely self taught but I do ok.

I'm in the USAF but stationed in England. I work in fuels and put gas on airplanes :P Not the most glorious job but it pays the bills I guess.

I put off a lot of add ons and forum / online interaction with FS because my connection here is slow and unstable. So I won't be able to do any multiplayer for at least another year till I get out the air force.

I still have a few questions but i'll save them for their respective topics.

Just wanted to say HI! Glad I finally joined, looking forward to talking / flying with you :)

Cya.

Welcome. I'm guessing you're stationed at Mildenhall, or some such. Enjoy England while you're over here. :)

Yeah I'm at Mildenhall. How did you know?:) Just kidding, I know we're everywhere.

Well I do have two questions right off the bat.

When I downloaded service pack, it screwed up my default 747. The flaps and, well pretty much everything that isn't a "solid part" of the wing itself is floating above it(flaps, ailerons, speedbrakes etc). It doesn't effect the physics at all but it looks really lame... Would this be my graphics card? I didn't think SP1 would change that much stuff with the Aircraft appearance.

the second if about FS Passenger if anyone is familiar. What is the best altitude to ask for +250kn(besides above 10,000). I usually ask between 12 and 14,000 but every once in awhile i get denied and (the second part of the question) then it won't ever let me re-ask. The co pilot just says "they already declined us". I doubt i'm supposed to fly an entire IFR plan going 249Kn? anyone know how to re-ask?

Thanks in advance.

the 747 problem should be because your graphics card does not support Shader 2.0 which is required for the advanced animations of FSX (such as jetways, 747 wings, etc.)

what GFX card do you have?

I bought this laptop a few months ago. Sony Vaio with a Mobile intel 965 chipset.

It doesn't even sound like a real graphics card to me :P. I bet thats my problem.:D

i have the same chipset in my laptop and it doesn't support Shader 2.0, just turn off advanced animations in your options and the wings should be fine (but they won't flex):(

Welcome!! You'll find that there's a few of us USAF types sneaking around here. I always enjoy my TDYs to Fairford. Apparently Mildenhall thinks that once they let the bomber world in, we'll never leave. Our last attempt to bring a B-1 through Mildenhall to support a few European airshows elsewhere was met with fierce resistance. They're mostly right. Fairford is in the middle of nowhere, in case you've never been.

Feel free to ask any questions you want here, that's what we're here for.

As far as multiplayer goes, it kinda died with FSX. The FS9 guys are still all over it, but it's different with FSX. Gamespy is a horrid waste of existence, and a host of mods with difficult configurations are needed to play otherwise.

What do you want to do when you get out?

Welcome MK182,

You should be able to ask for an altitude increase to any flight level over the one you are using..

Normal cruise altitudes are available above FL160..
also you can increase speed above 250kts once you pass 10,000ft ... !!

I'm ex RAF and worked with some good USAF guys over the yrs when on TDY in Aviano...amongst a few other places...

Shot some pool at Mildenhall sometime back and the guys couldnt figure out why they were being beaten all the time by the Brits...!!

Our pool table pockets are almost as tight as a virgin compared to the Grand Canyon sytyle pockets on American tables..!!

Result = Brits win most of the time on Yank tables ...!! Just a sideline thought the next time you wanna shoot pool against a Brit mate...!!

Hope you enjoy your time over here and also make good use of these forums...
I'm an old sweat on FS2002, but totally new to FSX, so i'm using the forums too..!!

Happy landings

Yeah I got about 10 months left. I'm gunna go to college and get my degree 1st and foremost (probably something like foreign relations cuz I like traveling) But I havn't decided if I want to fly for real yet either. I was thinking about rejoining the air force and trying flight school after college, but I don't know, now that I know how the military works, I know theres a good chance I'm stuck flying a desk for 10 years as 2nd Lt.-no-one-cares. :P. And I heard that civialian airline schools are terribly expensive... but we'll see :)

Ascot2054

Well, I been here about 2 years so I pretty much know all your tricks :D

We used to play pool in Bury st. edmunds at the grapes a lot when bands were playing, but after the pound got two to one on the dollar last year I kinda quit going out and just wanted to save my money. But now that its cheaper again I been trying to get out to Norwich :))

I think they're gunna send me to Al Udied this summer so I'll get to spend plenty of time with the RAF, RAAF, and all the other air forces of the world ;).
