Just got FSX for xmas (and i'm already pursuading myself and my fiance that a better graphics card is 'needed' for our PC).

Anyway, what essential updates are needed? After installing FSX it auto-downloaded Service Pack 1, which it said mitigates the need for this 'Acceleration' pack. Is there anything else I should get?

Are there any other nice to have and easy to install upgrades that are worth getting? I wouldn't mind some other types of aircraft (I had FS2002, and that had a biplane, and a WWII fighter, why aren't these in FSX anymore), they're all look pretty samey in FSX.

im currently using FSX with SP1 installed, due to some of my addon aircarft not being SP2 (which is included with the Acceleration Pack) compatible and my laptop does not support the graphics requirements for SP2

what are your current system specs? you may want to save the money for a new processor as FSX is CPU-intensive

Thanks, spec is:

core2duo 2.4 GHz, 2GB RAM

The graphics card is an NVidia 7600 series, I'm thinking of upgrading to a 8600 GT, or preferably a 8800 GT if the money can stretch to it.

Also, it's Windows XP :)

from what ive heard here, that Core2Duo will be fine with medium FSX settings unless you overclock so (IMO) the GFX card upgrade will be worth it

as for why microsoft removed some vintage planes from FSX, im guessing its because FS9 focused mainly on vintage planes and they wanted a change

If you have the cash, go for the 8800GT every time!
