I received a freebie CD along with the purchase of some other software. The disk is black and has the IL2 name and a big outline of a star on it.

How can I determine whether this is the real game or a demo version?

Also, I have loaded it on my machine, but can't figure out how to assign input controls to my joystick, as there is no documentation with the disk.

Thanks,
Bruce

You can get IL2 Sturmovik 1946, which includes IL2, Forgotten Battles, Pacific Fighters, AEP, and all other patches and addons to the IL2 series in one game for a $10 download at Ubisoft. That is the way to go.

A search in Google for "IL2 manuals" yielded a few hits. The first hit seemed to be a full PDF of the original game manual (although I didn't personally check it out). You therefore might like to check Google. And, if you can get a copy of the manual from Google then it may also prove helpful in determining if you have the full version of the game or not (because the manual that came in the box with the game is extensive and outlines all of the game's various options from controls, training, single play and campaign - including complete campaign historical history).

Wow. . .that's a bargain!!!

I've been a dedicated Il-2er since it came out and have everything on disk, and certainly paid a bit more than 10 bucks!
