I would like to change aircraft in one or more of the FSX missions, for example the cessna panel in "Crossing The Channel" I would like to use the ordinary panel instead of the glass cockpit. The problem I have is I can;t find the .flt or .xml files to edit, using a mission editor. I need to know the path to these files. They are not in the missions folders or in my documents. My OS is Vista home premium with uac disabled and FSX in the default path C: program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

Well ... you could check the box "Allow changes to missions ..." and switch aircraft once the mission starts.
If you want to edit the .flt file, you'll find a .flt file in each mission folder. Look for the section called [SIM.0] and change the title of the aircraft to the one you want to use.
In Vista, you may need to ensure you are displaying all files and have permissions to edit files in those folders (requires admin access.)
Cheers,
