Major M,

Kindly give us the full name of the dll that is missing.

In the meantime, I'm going to hazard a guess that the missing one is FSsound.dll, which is an addon to FS2004 and earlier versions of FS. Therefore reinstalling FS2004 will have deleted it. If this is what's going on, not to worry, we'll get it sorted out.

MajorM,

Okay ... Try copying it (FSsound.dll) to the Modules folder. Let me know what happens, yes?

Where do I find the .dll and how do I move it. I've been out of the learning curve for a long time LoL

Major M,

Kindly send me a real world email as mike@pcgamecontrols.com. I'll then email you the last and final version of FSsound.dll, which might be more recent than the one you were running.

EDIT: I recently discovered that I have a talent for writing doggerel parody song lyrics. So I'll rise to the challenge via a series of edits to this post ...

Take my hand, I'm a stranger in 'Puter Land,
Completely confus-ed and,
No match for you all.

No ... That's not even close to the original. System reset ...

Take my hand, I'm just trying to ask real nice,
All lost in this 'puter land,
My system was over-priced.
Blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah,
Blah blah blah blah blah bla blah,
Blah blah blah blah.

I saw your smiley face, I was offended.
I'll get me a can of mace, to spray in your air.

(to be repaired and continued)

Folks,

I sent Major M the promised FSsound.dll and he put it in Modules. However, that didn't solve the problem.

For the public record, the next thing we will try is an edit to fs9.cfg, the following to be inserted into that file ...

[oldmodules]
fssound.dll=1

Again for the public record, using Windows Explorer kindly navigate to the following location ...

Desktop
My Computer
C:
Documents and Settings
<your name/initials>
Application Data
Microsoft
FS9

In there you will find a file named fs9.cfg. Right click on the file name and then follow the instructions for opening the file in NotePad, additionally allowing all files of that type (.cfg) always to be opened in NotePad. Once the file is open, Edit/Copy the text indicated above, do Edit/Paste into NotePad, then Save the file and run FS again.

You have to go one step further -

FSSound.dll is considered by FS2004 to be an "old module" which might be problematic.

You need to add the following to the FS9.cfg file:

[OLDMODULES]
FSSound.dll=1

It can be added at the end of your FS9.cfg file and FS2004 will locate it properly upon next startup.

That line simply tells FS2004 it is OK to use the module.

opaplano,

I know you're always a helpful person (thanks!), but I said that, yes? And I supplied the step by step instructions for how to do it.

My having started this forum, I like to set the tone by giving newcomers plenty of information so that the entire readership will get educated in general rather than simply having the specific poster's problem solved in a few words. Major M is quite new to computers and will have needed the detailed instructions, which he won't need in the future.

Sorry Mike -

Somehow I missed the fact that you had provided the additional instructions.

Not a problem, David. In fact, I forgot to post the instructions regarding where to put FSsound.dll. Let me do that now ...

Attached is the final version of FSSound.dll, as far as I know. As I mentioned, this should be placed in the Modules folder of FS9 = FS2004. Here's how to do that ...

Using Windows Explorer kindly navigate to the place where you saved what I've sent you. (Your desktop?) Select the file and do Edit/Copy. Then, still using Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder shown below by following this path ...

My Computer
Desktop
C:
Program Files
Microsoft Games
Flight Simulator 9
Modules

and then do Edit/Paste within the Modules folder. Then start FS from scratch.
