Read my post about the great new Desktop Fences program, learn about what it is, download, view screenshots, and more, on my latest blog post (http://www.thewritingblog.com/intotheskies/?p=101) here.

Please comment on the blog (it encourages me to write) and also discuss this here.

Thanks!
Asad. :)

Asad,

Desktop Fences is clearly a good idea. (Nice article, by the way.) Here's a related idea ...

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I personally don't use desktop icons. What I do instead is right click on the start button, do Open All Users, and then create folders which serve the same purpose as the groupings that Desktop Fences allows to be created.

Now ... I am NOT criticizing Desktop Fences. In fact, had it existed five years ago I might not bother with my edit-the-start-menu-itself approach.

In the immortal words of Dan Linton, one of the owners of FlightSim.com, "My seventeen cents, which is two cents adjusted for inflation." :D

To each his own, then. :P

Personally I prefer all my icons to be on the desktop, either through a Mac-like dock (I'll cover this later on the blog), or through simple desktop icons, which take less memory and hence are better for gaming.

In the end, though, Fences can prove to be extremely useful for most people. :)

Asad, having toyed with many different methods of organizing and not finding the right combination yet for my work habits, I'm very much looking forward to trying this.

Good to hear that, Robert! If you still don't like Fences, you may want to try Rocket Dock, Object Dock, or Object Dock Plus!, which allows you to have multiple docks, tabbed docks, and so on. :)

Asad,

How about your doing an article on the things you just mentioned to robertr?

I plan to, sometime. Maybe even tonight. ;)
