Hi, I'm really new as in installed FSX yesterday. I know I'm still learning how to fly by taking all of the tutorials one by one, but I was wondering how or were can I find up to date scenerys for my area for free flying. I'm in Ontario Canada, and when I do free flight, the local area doesn't look like it really is. By reading some stuff I have found that people have updated their scenery.

So I looked through the downloadable files and see a couple for Ontario and my local area Sarnia. My questions are 1. is there a good how to install these files and 2. Can files created for older versions be used in my version.

I am still using the search fuction, so I may find my answers, but I'm hoping someone can help point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Generally when you unpack the download there is a text file called read me or read first, and it includes instructions on installation.

as for older scenery working, that one is iffy, depends on how old, and how well the creator did their job.

I have had FS9 scenery work well in FSX and some not.

Ultimate Terrain X is a payware product that seems to get allot of good comments

In answer to your 1st question ----------

The HELP section of FSX explains how to install scenery (and aircraft also).

You can make a shortcut on your Desktop to access the Help files anytime you wish without FSX running.

Just Paste the following line into the Shortcut's "location" box.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\FSWeb\LearningCenter\lc_index_IndexTabs.htm

Be sure to copy the entire line starting with C and ending with htm

This assumes a default installation on your C drive.

2nd Question -

Many FS2004 sceneries are problematic when placed in FSX (texture issues are common) so you will have less problems if you stay with sceneries specifically created for FSX.

Hope this helps.
