Okay, I'm very new to this whole Virtual Cockpit thing. I've been flying since FS4 and I've always liked these 2D panels and VC has always seemed kind of annoying and hard to get around in. I've always used the hat button on my joystick to look around so I'm assuming that's a no-no, because it's slow, and kind of annoying also.

I see a lot of people using VC these days so there must be something more to it. I've been playing with it for a few minutes here and I can't seem to find a way to do this. What I'd like to do is use my mouse to look around, only while holding the right mouse button. When I release the button, it should stop looking and I'm able to left click on something to interact with it. Now, I see that by pressing and holding the spacebar, I can achieve this effect but that means I have to use my left hand as well, which I want to avoid. When I go into the controls menu and try to change that "space" action to the right mouse button, it doesn't let me, probably because it's reservering that button for other functions. Is there a way around this, or other convenient way I can do this? Or maybe even someone has another solution? Thanks in advance :)

Shift-O also turns on the mouse look while in VC, you can see if you can map that to your mouse button?

You can also use the number pad on the keyboard, numbers 1 through 9, and the del, or ., key also brings your view instantly back to the front view, no matter what you are looking at. The 8 and 9 keys let you pan up, and down. Experiment with them. The num lock also has to be on. Also there is trackir if you are familiar with it, or have it. Hope this helps.

Yeah, you'd have to go into the options->controls and map a new key to your mouse right click

Also, you can change the rate of pan with the joystick hat switch. I use my hat switch 99% of the time, works great for me!

You need to navigate to Drive:\Documents and Settings\"User Name"\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX\

And then open the cameras.cfg file,

Look under (CameraDefinition.002) (this is the virtual cockpit)and change the HeadingPanRate and PitchPanRate to whatever you want, I believe the value is in degrees per second.
