Just curious if anyone here has tried the new Instant Object Maker from FlightsimTools and if so, what you think of it - pro or con.

You can check it out here:

I have reviewed the Manual and it looks very good but wanted to see if anyone has any comments to share before purchasing.

I too looked at the manual David but (admittedly only on the basis of a skim through) I wondered if the results might be a bit basic. The example of the vehicle seemed a bit boxy but maybe I have just missed the best bits - would not surprise me at all :o

I also looked at their forum where the "boxy" question was raised. The program apparently only works with flat polys now but the ability to work with curved structures is to be added to a future update - according to the authors.

Then I think I would be inclined to wait :) but that is just my view of course ;)

I have it installed, have browsed the manual, watched the video, that's how far I've gotten at this point.

Conceptually, I like it. First, think of a favorite building and then think of the time and effort modeling and texturing in Gmax or FSDS or if you have the money, 3dsMax. Comes out quick and easy with some photos and a little time in IOM. It's a first release and there's sure to be issues, but my experience shows the designer responds well.

Too many people are afraid to try Gmax or FSDS because of the horror stories that are about in the forums. Maybe IOM will give them the push to try some design work and be the initial tool of choice. And then they can consider if using the more advanced tools are something they might want to consider.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Since it comes with a 30 day, money back guarantee, I believe I will give it a try.

I appreciate the insights.

Would be interested in your feedback, David. Right now I'm doing a whole bunch of airports, but it's ground based work. Eventually, I'll need some generic type structures to populate the fields and to me, IOM sounds like an easy way to do it. Just need to figure out how to work all the buttons on my digicam...:o

Of course there are many building structures now available as "objects" which can placed using the EZ program (from Abacus) or the one which I feel is considerably better, the Instant Scenery program (from Flight1).

If you are not familiar with these, both are by the same author, both cost about the same (approx $25 US) and both have a free trial version - limited to placing objects in a 50 mile radius of Seattle.

Both have "what you see is what you get" interfaces and both can place all of the FS2004 default objects, all of the RWY12 objects and all of the EZ style objects - hundreds and hundreds all told.

You may want to check out these programs as your project continues.
