Hi,
SP2 gives me some very weird graphical anomalies like green beams from airfield beacons, flashing graphics and other weirdness. I've kept it on there because I keep seeing new aircraft and scenery releases that state it will only work with SP2. So do I have to use SP2 or can I get away without it? Will addons rearly be that dependent on SP2.
Ted.

LOL right... do you mean other than the ones that are supposed to be coming from them?
I would definitely keep SP2 installed. Whether or not you have DX10 enabled is up to you. Personally, I don't.

I don't know what kind of graphics card you are using, but I was having serious graphic glitches after upgrading to SP2 with an ATI graphics card. I switched to nVidia and the problem was solved. I wasn't a big fan of nVidia in the past but I've had my 8800GT for a couple of months and I'm very happy with it.

I think most new releases will require SP2. I would keep it.
Some of the recent releases just state, "FSX Full Compatibility"
Some give you no clue as to FSX compatibility?
Try lowering your water effects settings. As long as I keep my
water effects setting below a certain level, I don't see any
weird effects.

I wonder if it's really required, or just that they will only provide support for sp2, which I think is reasonable.

I think the coding is different across SP1 and SP2 hence the need to use the latest SP. There will be addons that work without SP2 and there's going to be a few that won't because of the differences in the SDK.

Scott, there were quite a few 'new commands & features' introduced with SP2, along with a few fixes for graphics quirks left over from RTM and SP1.
Under some circumstances, an SP2 compliant package may not be 100% backwards compatible with FSX RTM or SP1 installations.

I was thinking in terms of the just-released Fly Tampa VHHX. Per the devs I found out they use the enhanced ground poly draw capability in sp2 but it sounds like they also have an "SDK" compliant version that will play in sp1. Even if something will play in sp1, I think it is reasonable for a dev to say "use it at your own risk in sp1".
