For comparison with my Xplane 9 Grand Canyon shots. And also I've included a couple of shots from Tileproxy (but not to many, cause matt already made a great thread showing that, but just for comparison between the three):

I showed this little town, because it was completely not there in Xplane, and barely visible in the flat satellite imagery from Google earth (which seemed a bit low res in this area).

Personally, so far, my favorite scenery for the Grand Canyon is Xplane9 by far, though I know FSX can do it better, it just needs to be done.

more in the next post....

And here are a few from tileproxy:

This is the area where we saw the town in UTX above.... you can barely make something out here:

I'll end with saying, that even though I enjoyed the Xplane scenery more, I enjoyed the flight experience more in FSX.

I'm glad I have both, I'll probably mimick all of my FSX flights in Xplane from now on so I can get the best of both worlds. :)

EDIT: I should mention that Tileproxy is recieving the benefit in these screenies of sitting on top of the UTX mesh....I'm sure it helps :)

In all fairness, I just mimicked my first flight from my world tour 08 in Xplane, and the results were not nearly as good as the grand canyon. In this area, my hometown of New Orleans, the VFR flying and the look in general was MUCH better in FSX with UTX. I could navigate completely by dead reckoning/pilotage based on my knowledge of the area. I could do the same in Xplane to a degree, but not nearly so well. Perhaps I'll post those screens from Xplane later too, but right now I'm sleepy.

Thanks for checking these out.....hopefully these will provide a more informed comparison of Xplane and FSX for those who haven't been able to try both.

Few things to mention here; you are showing shots here from FSX plus UTX. X-plane shots are from the box. To do an apple to apple, shots from box products should be compared. Besides the scenery (which is on 6 DVDs vs 2 (FSX)), the smoothness factor is awesome. There are items that are better in FSX such as ATC, default airport buildings and city buildings and more detailed aircraft but the smooth flight in X-plane 9 just blows me away. Right now I am running FS9, FSX and X-plane 9 on my rig. Each of these 3 sims have their strengths and weaknesses. BTW, to run X-plane 9 to its fullest, you do need a dual core CPU.

I'm not trying to make a fair comparison, cause FSX out of the box is not even in the ballpark. There would be no comparison.

Xplane9 renders this area better than FSX and UTX together.....

Anyways, I'm thinking of making my own photoscenery for the grand canyon for FSX.

Those are nice shots.

But I gotta ask on the picture below. Was that a skywriter flying in the sky or just another AI traffic? I was talking about the contrail there.

Great shots Roger. It's interesting to see the contrast in sceneries. BTW that little town appears to be the town of Grand Canyon, AZ, brings back memories of my real world flying out of Prescott, AZ.
