I must have baffled the 49 or so people who looked at my post "Bizarre problem with horizontal/vertical. I've tried everything, in vain, to fix it.. FSX's SP2 seems to have caused a lot of problems for people. I'm thinking I should try to uninstall it. I hadn't had it before my reinstall of FSX but did put SP2 in this time and now my scenery, esp. aircraft and gauges, is "scrunched" vertically. I couldn't find SP2 in "Add and Remove Programs". Any suggestions as to how to remove it, since that might help my weird scenery problem?

Hi,
Make sure the Show Updates box is checked on the Add/Remove Software screen.

The show updates is checked. I still can't find SP2. Of course, this is just an sssumtion that SP2 is the cause of the severe distortions.

Same deal for me... I installed SP2 with undesirable results (I get graphical "tearing" when panning th view and my ATC window fonts look pixelated). But I don't see an SP2 option in the Add or Remove Programs box, even with Show Updates checked (the only entry I see is "Microsoft Flight Simulator X Service Pack 2").
The problems I'm having are minor but since I'm not getting any benefit that I'm aware of from SP2 I thought I'd uninstall.

Wing Fat are you using an ati card by any chance? If so, try setting "wait for vert refresh" to always on. This will help with the tearing issue. For the distorted fonts in the atc window try setting your mipmap detail level to the highest quality setting.

"(the only entry I see is "Microsoft Flight Simulator X Service Pack 2")."
That is the entry that you remove.

Jim: That won't remove the entire FS installation?

After all the problems I had with sp2 I decided to either quit simming or try one more time. I reinstalled flight sim and am now running it with NO service packs and everything is smooth as silk. Glad I tried that one more time. No more sp's for me.

I went through the same crap with SP1. Personally I’m scared to even try this but it might help somebody savvy in the future.

Okay I chose uninstall for "Microsoft Flight Simulator X Service Pack 2" and it put it back to SP1. Your advice was correct Jim, thanks.

SP1 is definitely worth installing. It caused no problem and provided a worthwhile boost in performance (i.e. frame rates). SP2 is the one that is causing problems for so many people and the one I recommend avoiding.
