Falcon4 is more realistic....but has a steep learning curve. Be prepared to be patient, and read into materials, plus practice, use of google hehe.
It took me like an hour to lock onto a radar target the first time LOL!

Having just played (or tried to!) play F4 allied force,i think Lock on has far better graphics-and Falcon AF is just tooo indepth for its own good.I just cant get my head around the equipment yet.Good grief, one must'nt have a life to get properly involved in this. It's too awkward, given a keyboard, joystick has to be used simaltaneously and efficiently.
The cockpit viewing is not as good as with Lock on (head turning with mouse). The digital readouts are TOO SMALL (esp for any monitor under 20 inches).
Lock on is quite a lot easier-and playable-without being unrealistic.
Falcon 4 AF is not for those that want a quick fly around in the F-16. It is for those that are serious into learning and fighting with the F-16 as this is indeed not for the faint of heart in learning the avionics. Another big plus about F4AF is that the battle field simulator meaning the campaign simulator in this is unlike any other out there.
If you want graphics this isn't for you. But if you want a fairly great simulator of how aerial battles are in a fully dynamic environment. Then this is the thing to learn and fly. Again, it's not for the faint of heart at learning. As already mentioned, be prepared to spend some great deal of time in the books. As when you do learn to fly this thing, this is almost as close as you can get to really flying the F-16 in any public flight simulator out in the market today that won't break your bank.

I appreciate what you are saying, and i'd like to confirm it's not because i am rather 'thick' in any way LOL. It's not so much the graphics, but the minute onsceen data. This is overcome in ''lock on'' thanks to great viewing control with the mouse, and wheel for zoom. I need a 30 inch monitor for F4AF.
It is no doubt very fulfilling to someone who has a few months to digest all of this, for greater complex combat.Lock on only took me a couple of days to get the hang of it all. I am as keen as anyone to learn F4AF,but i'd need to evacuate my mind of everything else first..:D I love flying the Flanker too much,i guess.

I have been with Falcon since the very very early days of Falcon AT. I now have both Falcon4 and FalconAF (Allied Force) on my PC. Both have very steep learning curves. But DO NOT let that get the better of you ... If you take the time, you WILL NOT regret it. The "simulation" of avionics and systems is second to none and the campaign is dynamic so that no two missions are ever the same ... EVER (even if you save, exit, and come back in to play the save - it will be different). You feel as though you are part of a "team" with the other AI aircraft working WITH you. Not just your wingman, but EVERY one who is up in the air will be communicating, working and systematically doing their bit for the "greater cause" (winning the campaign). It is not uncommon if you happen to find yourself in a tight situation to hear some radio calls from AWACS and discover they are vectoring a flight to your aid ... next thing you know, BAM!, your adversary is going down and you live to make it home to fly another day. You didn't even have to ask (radio) for the help. Even better, the campaign engine generates flights that, on the surface, seemingly have nothing to do with yours ... but, after a bit of further investigation you will see that those tasks ahead of yours are in fact designed to take out "obstacles" that would be in YOUR way when it is your turn to get up and fly your mission. And your success will therefore rely on their success. And the missions that follow yours will also rely on YOUR success. And so on and so forth. Everything is woven in with everything else. It is so realistic and engrossing!
So, while it is a large learning curve, it is VERY MUCH worth the effort to stick with it and come to grips with the ins and outs of the avionics, the systems and the way a "team" all combines together to achieve the end results.
Yes, it all seems very daunting at first; but believe me, it is fantastic once you start to get involved with it all!
Finally, here is the best place to go to learn and discuss everything FalconAF. (Newbies VERY welcome here):

So, congratulations on your purchase of FalconAF. If you stick with it, you will LOVE IT!

freddy,
I haven't had time to do more than load the game, but my box says "Falcon 4.0 Allied Force". Is that the game you mean? (I'd been calling it simply "Falcon 4")

Hey,for some reason my PC crashes tooo often when i play ''lock on''. I have VISTA,an athlon 64 phenom quad core 3 gig ram. I am wondering if VISTA is the problem. It usually happens in the ''thick of it'' with lots going on,but not always. Its a right pain in de arse!!
You have any idea what it could be? Cheers

Yep, that is the one I mean, Falcon 4.0 Allied Force.
(And a small tip in good faith: if you are on Falcon forums such as the one I quoted in my earlier post, keep in mind not to call it a "game" - that will get most of the old die-hards a bit upset - it is a "sim", not a "game".)
Many people with this sim have BOTH Falcon 4.0 (original) and Falcon 4.0 Allied Force. Myself being in that category.
On a technicality you are not incorrect to call it Falcon 4.0 ... because Falcon 4.0 Allied Force is actually Falcon 4.0 ... but with many add-ons, improvements and enhancements. Having said that, the original Falcon 4.0 has its own fair share of USER (or "community") add ons and improvements. There are pros and cons to owning and running both. Debate often rages in forums as to which is better. But, generally, people just own both and fly one or the other depending on their mood and preference at the time.

No, sorry. I don't own Lock On. So I have no idea.

Just another note regarding Falcon 4.0 Allied Force, be sure to patch it up to the latest version (1.0.13) ...
Patch available from the Lead Pursuit web page: http://www.lead-pursuit.com
And, the best way to get started is with the built-in tutorials. Start at the first one and go from there. The manual on the CD is fairly good too (it could be better, but its better than nothing). If you can get the manual printed you will benefit greatly. And, of course, the forums are a great help for all sorts of things. I reiterate the best forum for Allied Force is here: http://forums.frugalsworld.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=73
Ah, finally an ally in the Falcon 4 world. And yes, everything he mentioned is indeed the way it is. Like I mentioned earlier, Falcon 4.0 AF is unequal in representing the F-16 Fighting Falcon from the avionics to the environment you fly in. The best part of that is really the campaign engine. And like he mentioned, no two campaign sessions are equal even if it was from a saved one.
Now if only others could duplicate that kind of dynamics, we'd have a first class simulator the likes to equal Falcon 4 - now in Falcon 4.0 AF. But as it stands, there aren't any, which is why I keep using this when I feel like flying in a combat simulator, despite the age of the graphics.
And with a bit of perseverance and patience, hopefully you'd get to like Falcon 4AF just as much we do.
And when you're ready to join a virtual squadron visit the folks here: http://www.72ndvfw.org/
They will teach you everything there is to learn about flying in the F-16 and being part of a squad.

I am still flying Falcon 4AF which if asked against the other sims i have flown is still by far the best for realism there is out there. Lock on etc are eye candy for sure but the dynamics and campaign engines leave a lot to be desired.
So if anyone still flys Falcon 4AF around here come visit us at www.801sttfw.com and take a look at our squadron. We fly weekly frags and have a really good training squadron. So if you never quite managed to master the F16 then come take a look and maybe blow the dust off the cd and have a go with us guys.
